Most all power adders when used in moderation and on the lower settings are tranny friendly. I was 1 of the first to get the Edge and I really still like it on the LB7. It has good tranny protection and more. Simple install also. If you need tire size adjustment, or diagnostics I like the Predator.:)

I am new here and have 80k on my 1st diesel so i am still learning. i have a hypertech 3 that i bought at 40k when putting on 285 tires. this programmer will adjust for tire size and from my research will give what you are looking for w/o having to add gages, etc. check out hypertech.com

hypertech, predator, bully dog are all good and wont hurt the tranny on the lower levels. 90hp is usually the limit for the tranny

90 HP empty, not towing of course. Towing heavy you can limp on 65 in the right, or wrong, conditions.:)

Just bought a 03 Chevy HD DuraMax last weekend. Has edge under hood programmer. Previous owner said it was set on 90 hp setting as he didn't pull heavy. Said he had instructions to adjust but would have to look for them. This coming weekend I will be pulling our 5th wheel to Red Rock Canyon in the Mojave desert in California. Trailer loaded 11,000 lbs. Don't have EGT guage yet and concerned about Edge set on 90 hp. I don't want to limp the tranny or get the EGT high either. Should I unplug the Edge? Or use lower tune which with no instructions I don't have a clue where to start.

Any help will be appreciated.

Doug, I would use the 60 hp setting max.

If you don't find the answers let me know and I will dig out my manuals. If its an EZ there will be a 3 position switch that hooks to the box for adjustment. If its a Juice then set the parking brake, turn on the key, put the ally in the gear corresponding with the power level you want, and pump the go pedal 3 times, I THINK.:) To check the current setting start the engine and with your foot on the brake shift from p,r,n,d, and back slowly. The engine will rev slightly to correspond with the setting. 1 rev is the lowest setting, etc. Also you can set a power level for normal and another for tow haul modes. You should also know that you can upgrade the box and add the Attitude for on the fly adjustments and more cool stuff. If I've missed something or stated it wrong somebody will correct me I hope.:)

I agree with most said here as it applies to LB7s.

LBZ guys are starting out with an equivalent power of a pretty well chipped LLY or LB7. The probably should stick to 40hp max on any chips. I think once Edge and the likes start coming out for the LBZ we will see lots of smoked Allisons.

Thanks for the great information guys. It is great having people like yourselves willing to help us rookies out. I will get the Edge turned down to 40 hp before I leave. The weather man isn't making matters any better. I will be climbing from 500 ft elevation to 4,000 ft elevation in a stretch of 20 miles so not a 6 or 7 % grade but I sure don't want to make a mistake and hurt the truck. Thanks again for your help.

I love my superchips!! It's simple and feels great. No other mods. I keep it in the performance tow mode, it'll bark the crap outa second. Others may make more power but I've never had any problems with any superchips that I've had.
