I have the 265s and everything is fine. The tire size will not screw up the computer or towing power. About the fuel milage...I think it will have a small effect.
It is very common for owners in this site to have 265s or 285s. Hope this helps.
One side note....our wheels are only 6.5" wide. The 265 needs I think a 7".....what I am getting at is some shops might not install them for you. I run them and see no problems.
Good luck

I had 265's (Pathfinder ATR's) on my stock PY0's, but couldn't get the tire pressure right and they ended up crowning and wearing in the middle... Ended up putting the puny 245's back on, until I could get a tire/rim combo.. Other people have had good luck with 265's on the stock rims, maybe different tire brands work better, I duno.
I had no problems towing our 10k 5er with the 265's, and fuel mileage was within 1-2 mpg. I tell you the 265's look much better than the 245's on these things, just wish GM would have given us 7" wide rims instead of 6.5".

I recently just put 265's Michelin LTX M/S on my stock rims & there aren't any problems with it. Best of all i took my truck in to dealer yesterday & they reprogrammed my computer with Tech 2 for bigger tires so now my spedo will be correct...They didnt charge me to do this....
Cosco installed Michelin 265 LTX M/S "E" tires on my OEM 6.6 " wheels. When I asked them if this was kosher they showed me their installation table guides and stated they would not install any tires on rims that are not recommended by the the manufacturer.
billnourse posted that he had called Michelin to make sure and they stated that their 265 LTX's on 6.5 rims were no problem. See the thread that also discusses this subject here.

Actually with todays vehicles being calibrated a bit "slow", 265's will put your speedo about dead on perfect.

Thanks alot guys , this really helps me out .I dont care for the look of the 245s either ,just not beefy enough for a 4x4.I ran the michelin ltx m/s 265 on my last truck a 89 gmc 1/2 ton 4x4,and had no problem with them on those rims if they are the same or not but when these wear out I will put the michelin on.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif Thanks for mentioning the other site mr x,I missed it! Also costco here I know will not install any tire that is not rated in the book for the truck.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif Edited by: mongo

If you go to Michelin's site, then click on 'tires and specs'(pdf) the chart will show you that a 265 'E' tire takes a 7-8" rim
That said, I have been running Michelin's 265E for 42k and haven't had a problem with the 6.5" rim.

Lakedaisy,
That's why I mentioned the Cosco installation and other sources that contradict the Michelin and Tirerack.com websites specifying 7" rims for the 265's. Cosco installs thousands of sewts of these and isn't gong to stick their neck out if it wasn't kosher.
It saved me at least $1,200 to not have to get new wheels to run 265's. Besides I always liked the looks of my OEM wheels. Just didn't like the roller skate tire size.

I felt the same way. Like the stock wheels. I thought I was going to get at least 60k out of these Michelins, but since I have installed the Juice the rear tires are showing a lot more wear than the front tires. :)

A few weeks back I put on a set of 265/75/R16E Nitto Tera Grapplers on the stock Chrome wheels and they are working out great so far. I was considering getting new wheels, but I just did not have the money to spend on both wheels and tires. I am very pleased with how the Nitto's worked out. The truck looks much better with the 265's. Hopefully they will not wear badly, time will tell.
