I ordered my new Silverado two weeks ago and have a TPW of 4-19-04, and am planning what kinds of oils to use, etc. I searched and read, but I'm still not sure what oil to use. I was going to use Delvac 1300 for the first 5k to 10k, then Delvac 1, but it has been said that Delvac 1 is $30/Gallon. My grandfather swears by Rotella T, and has always used that in his diesels. I am thinking about using Rotella T for the first 5-10k, then the Rotella Synthetic from then on. What are everyone's feelings on that?
When I check the diff levels (I will ask that the dealer check them, but I will also check), if I find them low, should I change the fluids right then, or just add some Mobil1 75W-90 and run like that until the 500-1k mark, when I will drain them and put in Mobil 1?
Does the Transfer case come with a synthetic or dino ATF? If I find that low, I would probably fill it with some Dextron III Dino (if it comes with dino), then later, probably when I change the diff fluids, drain it and put in Mobil 1 ATF, since it carries the Dextron III rating.
I am a believer in synthetic oils, and would like to end up with all synthetic oils on my new truck. My grandfather doesn't understand how a "fake" oil can be better than a "real" oil, but the numbers are there.
Thanks for your help and input.
