: Front License Plate on 04 2500HD
NightStalker 04-09-2004, 12:13 AM I was wondering if I was the only one to have this problem?
This is regarding installing a front license plate on the 2500 silverado. The bumper comes with the plastic inserts in the bumper at the correct spacing for a plate but because the plastic below it protrudes out approx. 3/8" more the tag sits at a bad angle. Also, the bumber angles back from the center and this would tend to bend the tag to conform. The plastic above the chrome bumper also sticks out and puts a funny angle on the tag. I have tried to get some info from chevrolet about a front license plate bracket kit and they say that they do not make one for it. I also went down to the dealer to make sure it wasn't just my truck and the 20 they had were the same. I did send Chevrolet an E-mail stating that I thought it was a shame that a truck that stickers for $47,000 does not come with a bracket for this, nor is one offered that you can buy and it looks real tacky at that dramatic angle.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif
Does anyone maybe know of an aftermarket one being produced?
Dura_Mike 04-09-2004, 12:55 PM My '03 GMC had the same setup. The license plate was bent and it was at a weird angle. When I got my '04, there was a plastic license plate bracket on the front that made the license plate fit nice and straight. The bracket is probably available from a GMC dealership and there is a chance it will work on your Silverado. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif Edited by: Dura_Mike
Roegs 04-09-2004, 03:30 PM I would also check on the bracket. My '03 came with one. Its kind of a flimsy setup, but it does work.
laborer 04-10-2004, 03:57 PM My '04 is the same way. The '02 was fine. Starting to find things that GM cheapend up on and I'm not really please about it.
Mike
Lawnboy 04-10-2004, 06:54 PM Mine came with a license plate bracket. Black plastic. Attaches with two license plate screws mounted about 3" apart on the front bumper (metal part).
I took it off temporarily as I don't want to advertise for the dealer. When I get a front plate I like, I'll re-attach it.
2MuchFun 04-10-2004, 07:42 PM My 04 Chevy has the proper bracket to mount the plate flat. Wanna buy it? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
J/K, I'll keep it around in case I get a "no front plate" ticket.
NightStalker 04-13-2004, 02:05 AM Would it be possible for one of you to take a digital picture of the plate from an 04?
I'll check with GMC but chevrolet does not offer it.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif
Lawnboy 04-13-2004, 07:51 AM This is for a GMC....Like you cant tell!

McRat 04-13-2004, 10:44 AM It is very common for the dealer to forget to include the front plate mounting bracket. And ashtray. And valve stem caps. And cigar lighter. Etc. You should be able to get it free of charge from the dealer.
I'm very surprised that they would tell you that there is not a bracket available. It is illegal in many states to operate without one.

Silveradogs 04-13-2004, 11:39 AM Part number?????http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
Xsta Z 28 04-13-2004, 01:26 PM My damned dealer just screwed the plate to the bumper, bent and points up.
So is there a part number floating around for the bracket???
THX! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif
NightStalker 04-13-2004, 11:06 PM Lawnboy,
Thank you very much for taking the time to take the photo's, very very kind of you. But by looking at the picture your screwholes in the bumber appear to be about 3 inches apart. The holes in my bumper are spaced apart normal. Although I am still going to check with GMC.
McRat,
Yes somtimes you are right but in this case there is not one according to 6 different dealers and Chevrolet themselves. I sent them 3 e-mails about it.
Thanks for the help!
NightStalker 04-13-2004, 11:31 PM Here is a couple of pic's although they are at night. I haven't painted the boltheads yet & I also want to paint the white inserts. I have installed it with these rubber coated screw nuts that came off of a Briggs & Stratton air cleaner. It works for now but it makes it hard to clean behind.

Silveradogs 04-14-2004, 09:32 AM Nightstalker,
What is your definition of Normal Spacing Please? Measurements please?
Thanks
Lawnboy 04-14-2004, 09:57 AM I don't know what to tell everyone.
With all the model year differences times two (GMC/Chevy), theres no way to know what will fit what.
I say: Go to your dealer and ask at the parts counter to look up the PN for your specific year. Mine does NOT look to have any normal GM partnumber on it.
If you live in a state that REQUIRES a front plate, then your entitled to a plate bracket for free.
I don't know if mine is an actual GM part or a cheap aftermarket so that the dealer can put their plate on and advertise?
Here is a closeup of the back with numbers:
http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/6DA_Platecloseup.jpg
Here is what it says:
MADE IN CANADA, PPD, 15199886, SAE >TEO<, CAV, 2, P0522
Then the number dial stuff.
And under the 3 number dials:
WIP 15199888
The white sticker has the following on it:
112403
234
Thats all!
Hope this helps someone.
NightStalker 04-14-2004, 05:09 PM Silveradogs,
What I mean by normal spacing is that the plastic inserts in the bumper line up with the holes or slots on a tag or vanity plate.
See my second pic.

Another Canadian part? I'm beginning to think that GMC really does stand for General Motors Canada... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif
Just move to Florida. Then you don't need a front license plate.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
NightStalker 04-14-2004, 05:37 PM Lawnboy,
I just got off of the phone with GMC and they do offer your plate holder for the 03 & 04 GMC truck but it wont fit Chevrolet because of the bolt hole spacing difference.
I don't know other than to wait & see if someone comes out with an aftermarket one.
Thanks for everyone's help!!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Lawnboy 04-14-2004, 05:41 PM I don't know other than to wait & see if someone comes out with an aftermarket one.
Doesn't Chevy offer one?
Or am I missing something?
There are quite a few states that don't require a front plate.
56Nomad 04-14-2004, 08:55 PM NightStalker.
Where can I get a front plate like that?
Dmaxcan 04-15-2004, 01:16 AM Easy fix, just sell your '03 and '04 chevys and buy the '01s and '02s, They look much better anyway. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
NightStalker 04-15-2004, 03:19 AM Lawnboy,
Your missing something!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif It's in my first post, they don't make one.
56Nomad,
I ordered it from eurosports daytona plates. (eurosportdaytona.com)
They have to custom make it, kinda. They offer it in all lazer cut plastic or with stainless back & plastic letters. This one is Black Stainless & plastic letters. I liked the color contrast with the strength of main plate being S/S. It waw around $32.00

Anyways....
I just cant fathom that Chevy doesn't make one.
What does 2MuchFun have then? He says he has a front bracket for a Chevy. Get some PN's from his.
Though, if it's anything like mine, your DURAMAX plate and nice cover won't likely fit in it.
NightStalker 04-15-2004, 06:27 PM I forgot about 2muchfun saying that, DOH!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif
2MUCHFUN,
ARE YOU STILL HERE!!!
56Nomad 04-16-2004, 04:35 PM I just ordered my front plate....... just like Mac's http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif
Diesel Cruisers Too 04-17-2004, 12:58 PM Don't know that this will help, but last week I ordered a front license plate mount for my truck (03). Part number was 15098459. Cost was about $5. I'll let you know how it works when it comes in.
NightStalker 04-23-2004, 01:14 AM GMC or Chevy?
2MuchFun 04-23-2004, 01:56 AM Sorry guys, I've had a ton of crap going on lately; 2 week old daughter in hospital, kitchen torn apart, master bath torn apart, broken tie rod on truck.. Argh!!
I'll get a picture and a part number tomorrow for the front plate bracket...
plrod 04-23-2004, 07:12 PM I see a Chevy 04 2500HD every morning when I drop my kids off at school and it has one on it. Mine didn't come with one but there must be one out there somewhere in OEM land.
2MuchFun 04-24-2004, 11:34 AM Well, I must have had a huge brain fart!
I was thinking of the Furd F-350 when I was picturing the front bracket! Not only was my front paper plate still in place, .....there was no bracket! Just the paper plate and frame from the dealer with two screws into the bumper... Sorry http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
SteveNorCal 04-27-2004, 07:40 PM Bringing this back up top........
Anybody got pics, ideas etc. for an aftermarket "front" license plate bracket for the 04 Chevy???
NightStalker 05-03-2004, 11:11 PM I still haven't had any luck!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif
Max Power 05-03-2004, 11:23 PM It wouldn't be too hard to mill one. What do you have in mind? Specific material? Angle? Any special features you want? Who knows maybe I'll actually get around to one of these projects some day. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif
NightStalker 05-06-2004, 12:45 AM I guess i could make one out of steel, weld it up and paint it black, knda like a 3 sided box with contours.
But i would have no objections if you wanna look at the pics on page #1 and make me one out of aluminum (I don't have a Tig welder).

Was this from from your local Chevy dealer??
promod 05-07-2004, 01:57 PM yes it was from a local dealer
NightStalker 05-07-2004, 05:32 PM PROMOD,
Can you tell if the bumpers are the same by the 2 pic's I posted on page 1. If not I could take some more pic's in the daytime. I did check the part # you gave and it does come up for an 03 to 04 truck but the dealer says it depends on what options you have as to what will fit with what. When he put my vin in the computer it did not show any bracket for my truck. If you don't mind maybe you could send me a PM with your vin so I could compare options to see if it would fit.
Thanks
promod 05-08-2004, 02:17 PM well i have to appoligze to everyone because this tag bracket wont fit on all models. i took it out the box real fast and held it up to my bumper and thought it would work but it doesnt. the problem is the 2 holes needed to bolt the bracket on aren't there. so sorry for the bad advice. next time i will take the time to check it out better before i post a message. i did find that putting 4 1/4 flat washers on each screw and putting the tag on with the top screws it doesn't look bad. sorry again for bad advice

Promod,
Were the holes closer together on this bracket than the ones on your bumper? If they are, then it's probably for a GMC.
Al in Mi 05-18-2004, 04:34 PM Anyone find a bracket yet??
2MuchFun 05-18-2004, 05:52 PM YEP!!
A guy at work today has the bracket on his 2004 C1500.
The holes for the bracket are much closer together than the ones on my bumper. You would have to drill new holes in the bumper to make the bracket work.
and the bracket is kinda flimzy looking ...
