This may be a simple question for the experts but I do not know what this is. It looks like an adjustment and it is located outboard of the alternator and above the belt tensioner.
What is it?

It's a schrader valve test port for connecting a fuel vacuum/pressure gauge. I also use this for bleeding the fuel system with my lift pump when changing filters.

Bill,
Stop showing off. Besides, he is clearly point to the cap for the schrader valve. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

Thanks! I was not sure if it was an adjustment or a dust cap. I did not want to go turning it untill I was sure I was not going to up the turbo boost or something.

I took the cap off mine today and asked the same thing "What is this?" The cap and the fitting both had what looked like and smelled of fuel. Is it normal for this to have some fuel coming out. It is not leaking out from under the cap at all.

I beleive it's normal ... I noticed the fuel in mine the first day I brought it home... without knowing what the cap was I just took it off http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif. Since then when ever I connect or disconect the Kent Moore gauge a little fuel is released and pools in the schrader valve opening.
