I currently have an 02 lbz with 46k on it. I love the truck. I recently found a new lbz, and with my trade in it will be a great deal, but there is nothing wrong with the truck I have. All those who have traded their lb7 on a new lbz are you happy with the new truck or not?

Thanks Dan

Stock for Stock I prefer the LBZ (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/autolink.php?id=22&script=newreply&forumid=140) for power but if I were in your shoes I would keep the LB7 (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/autolink.php?id=20&script=newreply&forumid=140).

My reasons would be:
1. The LB7 (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/autolink.php?id=20&script=newreply&forumid=140) is tried and true.
2. The add ons in your sig would cost $$ to replace.
3. Just broke in @ 47K.
4. 200K injector warranty.
5. No trouble to date.
6. Value loss in trade.
7. LBZ (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/autolink.php?id=22&script=newreply&forumid=140) has yet to prove itself towing heavy in summer weather. Should know something soon though.

Probably not what you wanted to here though. :)

From all posting that previous owners have done you won't get as good of gas mileage with the LBZ as with the LB7.

I would say keep what you have. As posted above your is tried and true. Not too mentioned it is modded already and it will cost to replace those.

However, with 07 emmissions cahnges I can see replaceing it so you have a new one you can drive for many years while they work out the emmissions crap. This depends alot on how many miles you have and how long you plan on keeping your trucks.

i have a lb7 04 model and my dad bought a lbz 06 model, as far as power there about the same when the lbz is shifted down in 5th gear, but when the lbz had 14000 miles on it, it blew 2 rods and had to replace two injectors. On the lb7 i haven't had to fix anything.

Power wise a stock LB7 won't touch an LBZ. My LBZ is actually a little quicker than my buddy's 03 with OJ on level 2. On the other hand my LBZ is a pig on fuel compared to my LB7. Censored My 06 averages a solid 4 mpg less than my 03 ZF6 did and about 3mpg less than my buddy's 03 Ally truck. They can't blame the loss in mileage on the extra power because my 03 averaged 19 mpg both stock and with the 180hp fuel box on. Besides the mileage I am happy with the 06.

I had a 01' LB7, traded it in for an 06' LLY. There was nothing wrong with my LB7 and never had any problems. 3 weeks later the dealership called me to see if my speedo had been corrected for the 285's because the tranny took a dump on the new owner. Moral......sometimes no reason for doing something turns out to be good enough.

Hey, I loved my LB7 too, but the LBZ is so much smoother and quietier, It is like the engine was taken to not just the next level, but several levels higher. The LBZ rocks!:ro)

Thats exactely what I wanted to hear honest opinions. I really like my lb7, but there are things I like about the new trucks. Thanks for the replies guys.

Take the money you would have lost in depreciation on the new LBZ and upgrade the tranny in your old truck. If you love performance you won't ever think about an LBZ again.

Its sounds like your old truck is really nice. Another vote for keeping it.

LB7 has the injectors inside the head with alot more plumbing connections to leak if they need repair. If IIRC, several people had injectors replaced and still had the crank case fill with fuel due to leaking connections. LBZ has this problem addressed. LBZ has stronger block and lower compression so this should help in the longevity area. Down side to LBZ is it is still unknown how it will deal with towing in the summer heat like abear mentioned. Also it has the EGR throwing dirty exhaust back into the engine. So far my LBZ has been better then my LB7 power wise and fuel economy has been about the same. This summer will be the true test towing through the Grand Canyon with the 5'ver

Hands down!!!!! Our LBZ is smoother and quieter the our old 2004 LB7. The 6-speed Allison shifts very smooth compared to the 5-speed. The cooling system also has been increased on the LBZ. The transmission cooler is a lot bigger than on the 2004 model. It was a good move for us. I would hate to have to go back to the 2004 model after owning this 2006 model.

Stay with your LB7. My brother in law has a 2002 and it's absolutely a beauty.

I had the same situation last fall and traded for About $13,500, and am very happy I did. The 2006 has a much better info readout such as MPG, 2 oil life etc. auto air, and realy seems to ride better.

I have driven many friends' Duramaxes since the beginning and I have watched the engine/tranny slowly evolve (in a very good way). There is absolutely NO WAY you wouldn't love a new LBZ.

As far as I am concerned, with the LBZ and the six-speed Allison 1000, the Duramax finally came of age. Here was diesel truck that, even in its stock condition, will do everything I could ever want. With that, I finally bought one.

And that, my friend, is the ultimate compliment to a truck.

Not that I have spent much time in LB7, but I would keep it for all of the reasons listed above. If I had a problem free LB7 I would not be looking to replace it until it was in shambles.
