I just spent a few minutes calling around town trying to find a thermostat for my wife’s’ Duramax. No one has them. Apparently it is a dealership item. That seems a little strange to me, a thermostat is just not that special.

What I am wondering is, are small parts like thermostats difficult to find in the aftermarket for 6.6L.

Right now the truck is under warranty but when it runs out I don’t want to be stuck going to the dealer for everything.

Takes the aftermarket time to get parts designed and available...plus there might not be enough demand at this time.


You ought to try finding a cap and rotor for my wife's 95 S10 pickup. It seems like they used this cap/rotor for about 5-6 months then switched....so 9 years later it is a dealer only item http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

It should be real fun when the 10 years that th mfgs have to keep parts runs out!

Recently I did a T stat and coolant R/R on my 99 Deville; went to a parts store I frequent who sells ACDelco. Asked for the OEM stat and they said they also had a Stant one. Out of curiousity I asked to see them both - when I did I was surprised to see the exact same T stat in both boxes with identical markings, they also said made in England. Go figure...
