: remote start help
CrazyAggie05 04-04-2006, 12:49 AM howdy yall, well its time to start dumping money into my mint lbz lol. i think its only appropiate to start off right and get a remote start/alarm system. ive been doing some research, and it looks like astrostart and compustar are good, as well as any of the dei brands. heres the deal though. i only know of two places i would trust my alarm to be installed at here in college station. one is best buy, the other is this place called audio visual. both are dei dealers, best buy sells viper and audio visual sells python (i guess they are the same though?).
anyways, i talked to the guy at audio visual and he said that it would be like a 170 bucks more to do a system whether it was the 2-way or one way system b/c the GM doors reqiore another module or something, and it requires another module for diesel. is this true? do the DEI systems use a wait to start for diesel operation or a timer?
the guy at best buy said they can install other systems besides the vipers they sell. so, i was thinking i could get an astrostart and have them install it, but i dunno if id trust them with it if they have never done them. and they prolly havent since the guy there had never even heard of compustar. can i get an astrotart from a mail order place anyways? what do yall think my best bet would be?
ob_1jr 04-04-2006, 04:56 AM PM Max Power. He sells the astrostart ones. From talking to him and others on the forum, he can give you directions for you to do it yourself and save a bunch of money on installation. He can give you support on it. Other than that, the DEI stuff is pretty good too. I have a Clifford and like it a lot.
Akila 04-04-2006, 05:36 AM Maxpower is your man. He will hook you up & give you a website with all the pictures to do it as many of us did. Read over the directions a couple of times as you go over the pics on the website. Not rocket science. & Tony was there at my call when I had questions on the install.
SmoknDmax 04-04-2006, 01:51 PM Update your signature so we know what year your truck is. If you have a 2003 or newer (I think), then the locks and security bypass use a data module.
I have an Astrostart from Max Power. I installed it myself and it was the first one I ever did. You won't need an extra module for diesel's with an Astrostart. The remote starter monitors the wait to start light on the dash. Once the light goes out, the remote starter will fire up the truck. No timers!
Talk to Max Power. You will be glad you did.
No matter who does your installation, make sure they they solder all the connections!
CrazyAggie05 04-04-2006, 02:02 PM ok i updated my sig, its a 2006... Im leaning towards the astrostart b/c it seems like a great system and it has a wait to start not timer feature for diesel. does it have a turbo timer as well? and since i have a 2006, what all would i need to order if iw anted the security and remote start system? im looking at either the 5204 or the 2205. oh, and yall promise its easy to instal by myself? i ahte toding electrical work, but i can do it.... its just a pita.... audio video wont do other systems besides the ones they sell, and best buy wasnt 200 freakin bucks for an install!
CrazyAggie05 04-04-2006, 02:05 PM oh, and i almost forgot, best buy will install the viper responder 2-way remote start and alarm system for 500.... i might just do that since thats the price of the system and install, seems like a decent deal, but i cant seem to find any info that says whether it is a wait to start system, or uses a timer for diesel starts. also, i was told id need another module since i have an 06... whats the scoop on the viper/python?
bcserl 04-04-2006, 04:18 PM I have the Viper responder. It seems to work with the wait to start light.
Max Power 04-04-2006, 04:42 PM There is no special module for an 06. 03-06 is the same.
Most remote starts have a wait to start input. Very few installers hook them up. It's like pulling teeth convincing them to hook it up. Very frusterating. It shouldn't be optional except maybe in the deep south where it never gets below 60 degrees.

500 is decent for an install. I paid 550 for mine up here in AK, but I had a discount through the installer. IIRC He said it would have been 700 otherwise. I think the place that installs the astrostart wanted 700 or 750.
Jazman 04-04-2006, 06:26 PM $700???

I already had it done for $550...they hooked up W2S and the trunk button to my high idle. If I had know that Max Power could have helped me out on the install, I would have gone that route. I found this site too late though. I went to have it professionally installed because of my 2 failed attempts on my last 2 trucks. Besides, fuel from Fairbanks to denver and back is just way too much. That's about 6280 miles round trip.....I don't plan on driving that far until I leave out of here and it will be less than half that. :D
