I just ordered a GMC 2500HD SLT and dealer says there is no option for dual alternators? Is this something everyone is adding on as aftermarket or is this dealer doing drugs?

You can get it on the Chevrolet, so you should be able to get it on the GMC.

Unless GM has changed something recently, they are available. Go to the GMC web site and try the build your own option and see if they come up. If they do, and I suspect they will, it's time for a trip back to the dealer....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif

Went and built a new GMC, I only see the option for a 145 amp alternator, nothing about dual alternators??? Also do you have to order the Auxillary battery or is this included?

You can get them on the trucks if you order it that way or dealer orders it that way. If you want to add it, I have put togather a kit to install it and it looks 100% factory.

Okay after I posted above, I went to the GMC site and the dual alts were showing up. Now I can't get them to show, but there's something wrong with the web site, among other things it shows roof lights on a 3500 as optional and they're required by law, it shows aux battery and it's not available in the Dmax because it already has two batteries, and it's showing 4.10 gears as optional which they are not.

So, as one of the other posters said above, the Chevy site is showing them. RPO code is 8X5 and they list at $224.00, go back and tell your dealer you want RPO code 8X5 added to the order and see what happens. He should be able to get on the computer he orders trucks on and amend your order right there.

If that doesn't work, call the GM customer service line and see what you can do on that end.

Last resort, Eric's kit will get you the dual alts, but it's going to be a bit more money.

The roof lights are not required on a 3500. They are only required on a duallie model. The 3500 SRW doesnt need to have them by law. Same deal with the 4.10s as those are optional on the SRW.

Ya, well if you look at my sig you'll note I have a DRW 3500.... Why would I attempt to build an SRW when checking to see if the form added the lights?

We've beat that 4.10 deal to death, if you think they're available, go ahead and order them with a Dmax...

Neither of these points is germaine to the attempt at solving the man's problem of not being able to get the dual alternators. I merely pointed out that there were some verifiable problems with the options page of the GMC web site.Edited by: Zeeb

My truck has the 8X5-dual alt option, but it is an early '04.
