How much additional holding power will the Transgo kit give the 6 speed Ally? Should this be considered when adding a programmer even in the lowest setting? How much of a job is it to install? Any special tools needed?

The jury is still out on how much power the Transgo will hold. I recomend it on any truck with any kind of power.

Hi Mike,
How difficult is the Transgo kit to install? Any special tools required? Is it something that a reasonably competent wrench should attempt or should I take it to a transmission shop? Thanks

Very easy on an '06. Only valvebody needs to be removed.

I just did mine today.
you should have a manual or guide to point out what bolts to remove to drop the v-body.

As has been said it's a pretty easy install. Drop the pan and valvebody, install the kit into the valvebody and reinstall. If you need the kit we have them in stock.

I see nobody has mentioned the converter when adding power.

I believe the converter for light power upgrades will be OK but if you plan to step up to more than + 100 Hp you will need a conveter and more transmission work too.

how much more transmission work will be needed for over a 100hp... I am running a juice and a hypertech... so converter valve body and what else???

You will need a converter, pump modifications and upgrade internal clutches.

Very easy on an '06. Only valvebody needs to be removed. Is it strictly a parts replacement kit or do you have to do some additional mods like drill out passages, etc.?

Thanks.

The 2 trim valves have to be replaced and 2 holes have to be drilled in the seperator plate.

mikeThanks Mike. sounds like a pretty straight forward job. I take it the kit comes with instructions about where to drill and how much? :)

Any specialized tools needed for this other that a drill and the correct size bit?

Can you tell me how long I should expect this job to take me if I do it in my garage with the truck up on 4 ramps?
(Wish I had a twin post hoist, but that's gonna have to wait 'till I move.:()

What's the best way to flush the tranny? Do I do this through the cooler lines?

Thanks.

In all honesty you can probably do this without even jacking up the truck. Just have a nice clean place to set the valvebody on and do your work. The full transgo kit comes with good instructions(pictures on were to drill) and the correct drill bit. dont know if the JR transgo kits do or not, mike or Steve could answer that. Acording to the manual you should have a torque wrench to put the VB bolts back in but I duno how critical that is becasue I've seen Eric use a 1/4" air wratchet. They are a pretty small value.....inch pounds, not even foot pounts IIRC.

When I do mine I will get a clean pan and dump my fluid back into the trans. We have this new stuff remember. Dont go mixing old dino dex 3 in there IMO.

When people talk about HP ratings over stock make sure your talking apples to apples. Make sure you are talking or the the other guy is talking about a LBZ if you are asking about that or if your asking about a LB7 or old(5 speed) LLY.

Edit: I would say a shade tree guy should be able to do this in about an hour by the time he lines up his tools and gets all the fluid back in her.

ratlover,

Thanks! This is excellent info.

I have a fairly good amount of hands-on knowledge and should have all the required tools for the job. Although I have rebuilt engines, rear ends, front and rear suspension and manual transmissions, I've never gone inside an automatic transmission. I've R&R'd the tranny in my old 4WD Suburban and several other vehicles, but always had someone else rebuild the automatic trans because I didn't have the time. But I have time now and I figure I may as well give it a try and learn.

One more question: What would be the best DIY method for flushing the tranny if you were going to replace the old oil with TranSynd?

Thanks.

There is a good articel in the DIY forum I believe that specs it out. Its the good old let it puke out the cooler line into a bucket deal. Sounds like your experience this should be a cake walk.

Do you know the new stuff is a totaly new fluid, its better than dyno dex? Duno if its good as transdyn or mobil 1 etc.....I think the jury is still out, probably not but its not as bad as regular dino oil. There are a couple good posts on it in the stock allison forum IIRC. I think Mike L posted in em quite a bit so if you search on it and his name you should fine it easy enough.
