Anyone have a picture of the buttons used to activate the heated seats? Where are they located?

Not a good pick but here's one of the passenger's side. Location is the same on the driver's side.

Voodoo any chance you could snap a better picture for me? Reason I'm asking is if I went to aftermarket leather and went w/ the heater seat option I would want to use the factory buttons which means I would have to replace the door panels according to the picture you posted.Edited by: y2kboti

The door panels come without the hole for the heated seat control. I had a door panel replaced and had to cut the hole myself. No part number for panel with hole. If you pull the panel off and look on the back, you will see the outline of where to cut.

Thanks for the pictures mbeckwith. I forgot about the other controls on the driverside. I assume the small button activates the butt and back while the larger one activates only the back? Also the seats are only heated not cooled right?

Just a quickie, semi-related question.

When the heaters are ON, and you shut your truck OFF. The next morning when you START your truck, do the seats go back ON the way they were?

My GF's Volvo DOES do this, and its nice. My 300M DOESN'T but wished they did. Plus Her Volvo has the controls on the dash so you can easily turn them on/off. Say, when your going to pick someone up on a cold day, you can pre-heat them before you get there, but if the switches are clear across the cab (or down along the side of the seat like my 300) it makes it hard to just switch them on.

Sorry to ramble.

But, do they "remember" your settings?

Nope, the seats shut off when the ignition shuts off and have to be "restarted" when you turn the ignition back on. On my 2001, I have a round button (like the one in the fuzzy pic) and it "cycles" through: Hi heat, Lo heat and Off. I believe it all goes through the BCM where the relays are activated and the BCM resets when the ignition is turned off.

y2kboti, heated only no a/c through the seats. Although I wish this truck had it.

I believe the is an aftermarket seat warmer/cooler. Anyone know who makes them?

JPCustoms makes aftermarket heaters and coolers. I put a pair of heaters in the wifes truck so she wouldn't steal mine. Tool a total of 4 hours to strip the seats, install the pads and add the wiring.

Just a side note on the heated OEM seat switch. I was thinking I could apply a 12V pulse with my remote start on and turn on the seats from the house. Well, that would take soldering to the board on the switch. The voltage in/out was only like 10 volts. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif I have my high idle hooked up to the trunk pop and I thought I could get the seats hooked up as well. Good idea, but not very easy, so I blew it off.

It's not easy but it can be done. I have done it on all my vehicles. On this truck I use an astro start module that turns on the heated seats through data so there was no need to go into the door.

Got a link to the module? Will it work on an 02 or just 03 and up?

No link, its only available through the dealer network. It will only work on 03's and up. For 02's just go into the door. Here is a .pdf that shows how to do it in the 99-02's. http://www.oilburners.net/uploads/heatedseats.pdf

You're correct on both questions. Also note: whether you push the back only button or the butt and back button, it will cycle the LEDs from high-med-low-off settings.

There's no cooling settting, unfortunately. I've driven a MBZ S-class on occasion and that has a cooling feature. It blows air through tiny holes in the leather. You can also make the seats blow warm air through the seats instead of just regular heat function. Those MBZ seats also have a "massage" function where the seats expand and contract while you're driving. It's hard to explain, but it's not a vibrating type massage. Time to hit the junk yard and do a retrofit http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif

The jpcustoms seat A/C option is only for seats with perferated leather.

Awl, a ruler and a bunch of holes? I wonder if an upholstry shop could perferate your covers?

Not sure but I would love this feature. My father has it in his Lexus and its great when it gets to be 100 degrees here.

I need bench seats and I don't really care for the GM leather so if I did opt for the heater/cooler kit I would probably go w/ Katzkin aftermarket leathers. Anyone know how the cool option works?
