The head light switch on my truck won`t stay on the off position. When i try to turn the lights off, the switch springs back to the auto setting. It`s done this from day one, is this normal ?

Not in Canada. They might as well not even put a switch in for those trucks, as the lights are on all the time. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

I'll have to check mine. As I've only touched mine twice, and that was checking my trailer wiring to verify running lights.

Automatic is real nice. I do, however, find that I use the FOG lights during the day to increase my visibility. Wish they would stay on.

Daytime visibility is a MAJOR safety BONUS.

My truck originated from Canada and has the same thing. I researched it and found that all recent cars/trucks made for Canada are required to have Daytime headlights, thus you are not able to turn your lights off.

I did not look for a fix (it's not broken anyway) to allow me to manually operate my headlights, but I would think there is one available somewhere.

I think having your head lights on during the day is a great safety feature, But i think GM could do a better job designing a switch for our market, It just feels cheap the way it springs back to the auto position !

The headlights are not on during the day, the daytime running lights are on during the day when the truck is in gear. The trouble is at night when the automatic system turns on the headlights when the truck is running and you can't shut them off using the headlight switch if you just want to leave it idling, or say, you're parking with you're girlfriend! I'm told it's a program option in the BCM but when I had a Canadian mechanic hook his tech 2 up we couldn't find the option. I wound up putting in relays to cut the headlights off when the parking brake is applied. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

Army, did you ever try the wiring I found a while back to disable the automatic position by adding the resistor at the BCM?

Just tried mine tonite.

To those with troubles....It must be a Canadian thing.

Here's how it goes....

It's dark.

Start truck.

Headlights/running lights come on.

Rotate switch CC to off.

ALL lights go off.

Switch spring loads back to AUTO but lights stay off.

To turn back on, switch to parking lights or headlights ON and then back to AUTO.
