: 1 or 2 subwoofers???
mitchn 03-31-2006, 09:48 AM I want to put a subwoofer(s) in my '05 crew cab.
I'm trying to decide if I need 1 or 2.
I don't want a huge thumper system...just want to make sure if I'm going to do it that I have enough bass when I'm done. The overall quality of the bass is more important to me than just one note volume.
I'd also like to stay with a pre-built box just to keep it simple.
Can anyone give me insight or suggestions?
Thanks!
ajchuck 03-31-2006, 10:17 AM Well in my 01 2500 Ext. Cab I have 2 10" subs under my back seat. You will want to look into the stereo having bass controls to turn it up or down to your liking.
I retained my fully folding back seats by having a ported cabinet made for an 8" sub behind the back seat. I PLAN ON REWORKING IT TO ADD ANOTHER. It works great for it's size but the 8 inchers are the biggest I have found to go behind the back seat completely factory...so I second my opinion!...and plan on twins for the subs.
You can fit larger but compromises begin to be made.
Pics of my "mini" setup in my garage.
Antnee77 03-31-2006, 11:09 PM If you want to go with 1 sub, I'd do a 12. If you're going for 2, I'd do 2 10's. For SQ in your bass, go with JL's.
J-HEFF 03-31-2006, 11:15 PM Hey there,
I have a crew cab, and the ONLY thing I could get to fit was ONE of my 8's and my 650amp. I tried finding a 10 and 12 that could fit, and I couldn't. None of them would let the seat fold back down to it's normal sitting position. It was real pain in the butt. Honestly though, I love the sound of the single 8. Some people want more, but I think this little 8 does MORE than enough. Most people think I have a single 12 in there, they can't believe it's only an 8. If you need pics or anything let me know! Hope this helps!

Antnee77 04-01-2006, 10:00 AM I know that people on this site have said that they have 2 JL 10W1's behind their rear seat. I believe this is as large as you'll be able to go, because the 10W3's do not fit without modifying the rear seat.
:exactly: as J-Heff stated. Here's the latest that I know from experience:
1. Install 8s behind the seat and everything functions with NO MODIFICATIONS
2. Install 10s behind the seat and you MUST remove the trim pieces that fill the gap behind the rear of the rear seat and the back wall leaving a gap of a couple of inches when rear seats are folded forward.
3. 12s will not fit behind the rear seat to the best of my knowledge
4. 10s and maybe 12s can be installed under the rear seat(s) but the seats will NO LONGER FOLD FLAT.
5. Fit whatever you want with custom install and loss of factory functionality.
aziator 04-01-2006, 06:04 PM A single one of these will fit behind the seat.

You nave to build an enclosure and you will have to remove the little shelf thing but other than that it fits fine. The Sub also takes a pretty good bit of power to get it moving, something in the area of a JL500/1.
aziator 04-01-2006, 06:07 PM BTW, they also offer it in a 10 now so you could put 2 of them behind the seat. I think the mounging depth on the 10 is only 2 7/8 inches.
DieselDuner 04-03-2006, 04:26 PM mtx makes a box that will hold 8's or 10's, I put 2 10s behind mine! sounds great!
Southern Bred 04-03-2006, 11:07 PM A good pair of 8" will work great from what you described. Keep in mind, sealed enclosures produce better sound quality but take more power to drive. Ported enclosures take much less power but depreciate sound quality. 8" will move plenty of air for the bass you're looking for. Good Luck
rushingbc 04-04-2006, 06:07 PM I have a JL box that replaces everything in the console between the front seats. I really like it and it houses one 10" JL audio sub that sounds great. The only problem though is if you have the bench seat.

Do you have the StealthBox? Even if he has a bench seat in the rear, that won't stop him from being able to install a JL StealthBox up front. The cost is pretty much the big issue here.
rushingbc 04-06-2006, 06:13 AM Yes, well, I think it is the stealth box. I had it put in about a year and a half ago, so I've slept alot since then. That was the one thing that I really liked about that set up, you know, I was able to retain all of my back seat leg room and under the seat area. If cost is the issue, than this set up probably isnt the best option, but if you had the money to spend I would go the JL console box.
6APPEAL 04-06-2006, 09:11 AM I built my own "stealth" box 4 years ago when I had my 1/2 ton extra cab. Removed the lower half of the center seat and built a 1.1 cu ft box to hold a JL Audio W6 12. Covered in matching vinyl and carpet. You would be surprised how many people cannot find the sub box. Currently working on putting this in the new truck. Except now I'm thinking about building a box under the rear seats to put the other 2 matching 12's ):h .

andym1996 04-06-2006, 11:06 AM The 03 that i am buying next week has a 10" under the passanger rear seat, and it is fully functional. The box was custom build. i will put out some pics when i get the truck. I think one would be able to get another one on the other side as well!
1MadBadMax 04-06-2006, 12:24 PM With all the talk of putting a sub in do you need more power also or what. or are you using still the stock indash unit? I have a 05
6APPEAL 04-06-2006, 02:20 PM My system will be completely aftermarket. Alpine head unit, Linear Power pre-amp, crossovers and amps, JL Audio, Image Dynamics and Alpine speakers. You can add a sub to the factory system, just do some searches. There are plenty of post on how to do it.
