I heard a new noise today. After starting the truck I got out to load some stuff in the back and noticed a BOM BOM BOM coming from the exhaust. It sounds like someone lightly tapping on a Bongo drum. I lifted the hood and also noticed the sound coming from around the air intake filter box. I would guess the frequency to be about 3 times a second. It's noticable enough that I would think I would have noticed it before if the truck has always done it.


My truck, see sig, has 12,700 miles on it and I've owned it since new.

Funny, I heard something very similar the last few days. My truck is definitely sounding louder than it has before and it seems to be like you describe it, a tapping sound. I have 17,100 miles and have not heard it before this week.

The dreaded Tick..................

The noise I heard is not the dreaded tick. It is not a ticking or tapping noise and is definitely heard in the exhaust and air filter box areas. Maybe it just the timing of some exhaust valves causing a "pulse" in the exhaust flow? Who knows.


I did just recently get the dreaded tick again though. I had it when the truck was new then it seemed to go away. I was using Rotella T 15W-40 and switched to Delvac 1300 the last oil change and that is when it seemed to start again. Maybe I should try Delo 400 next....I got away from the Rotella because of the smell from the vent tube.
