I'm looking at buying a used 2001 Silverado LT, 4x4, CC-SB with a Duramax diesel and 76000 miles on it. The dealership had it listed for $29,900 but has come down to $28200. They will give me $15000 for my 2000 GMC Sierra SLE EC-SB that also has 76000 mile on it. The Truck looks to be in outstanding shape, inside and out. Even the leather has held up well. I've taken it out on the road several time and love the ride and performance. This is my first diesel and the first time I've entered this forum. From all I have researched, the Duramax is the way to go but I am just concerned about paying $28000 for a truck with 76000 miles. I would appreciate anyones concerns, opinions and suggestions. Also, anything I need to look out for or look into.
Thank you

Kennedy 04-06-2004, 09:30 PM I'd say that is high. You should be able to get into a NEW crew cab short (not LT) for mid or even low $30's outright.
$3500 in rebates currently running...
White Duramax 04-06-2004, 09:33 PM That is a little to high, shouldnt be over 25,000 for that mileage.
fishingn 04-06-2004, 11:17 PM Heck ill sell you mine for 33K its an 03. There asking way tooooooo much for that truck. I would personally stay away from that deal. Look at a new one. Go to the internet sales person at the dealership they will sell it to you for invoice or a little over plus the rebates...But whatever we say here it still boils down to you anyways...
Frank Blum 04-06-2004, 11:27 PM I have always done better selling my truck out right. Go to the NADA site and look up the price. I would expect to pay top book for a uses Dmax. A friend/salesman at the local Chev dealership said he would kill for a used Dmax. He said they have a lot of calls for them. Later! Frank

the truck ur looking at is the exact one i have, except mine is a gmc sierra...i paid $30k for mine in feb this yr, but it only had 38.5k miles on it...as is the one ur looking at, it's in VERY good shape...
HOWEVER, ask someone here to run the vin # for you...the shop foreman where i have mine serviced ran mine...the warranty work on it is SIX pages long!...nothwithstanding that, my injectors had to be replaced at 41k...SO, i essentially have a new truck...
even tho it's been thru a lot i LOVE it!...but in ur situation i have to agree that u cud get a new one for prob just about what they're wanting for this one...you'll ALSO get the new lly engine...
when you get a deal on paper for a new one, take it to the other dealership, show it to them, and see what happens...good luck!

Dmax Tim 04-07-2004, 07:40 AM Road master, I sent u a PM, I'm a ordering GMC this Saturday.
redneck45 04-07-2004, 07:58 AM Well, I paid 32,400 for a brand new '04 LLY, well equipped LS. (sticker was 41k and invoice was 36k) I got GMS price and I do not work for then. Shop around, the first one I looked at was the same exact truck, but it was used with 4,500 miles, and that dealers best price was 36k!) Ext.cab, short box, 4x4, dmax, allison, G80 rear, etc. This was last month when incentive was only $2,500, Kennedy says they are now $3,500, guess I should have waited a few days (always got best deals toward end of month).
2MuchFun 04-07-2004, 10:01 AM Hmmm, something here isnt adding up.
Kennedy, you're saying low to mid 30s out the door for a CC 4x4 with D/A?
I bought my 2004 CC LB 4x4 LS with the GMS and rebates and it was right at $40K out the door with a MSRP of just over $47K
But I agree about this truck; seems kinda high priced, but thats always the way it is buying from a dealer. In return, you get their backing of the truck and assurance that you're not buying a POS since they are required to do alot of inspections and for the truck to meet alot of standards....
rickles04 04-07-2004, 10:34 AM WAY HIGH
dmaxalliTech 04-07-2004, 10:52 AM We got a few used 03's and lots of new on the lot.... problem is its hard to find a good one (01-02) at the dealer, so when you do,they command top dollar.
Heartbeat Hauler 04-07-2004, 11:13 AM My Father-in-law bought a new 03 2500 Dmax/Allison regular cab LS for $27000. That dealer wants way too much. With the $3500 in rebates mentioned above, it isn't that much more for a new one.

Well you guys are focusing on the asking price for the truck he wants and not paying attention to the trade in figure...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
Frank has an excellent point. The dealer is not going to give you what your trade in is worth on a retail basis. So selling your own first gets you the difference between retail and wholesale.
Second, the mileage on the truck he's looking at is above average, as is his trade in. The book gives you 12,000 miles per year IIRC, and deducts value for anything over that. So the only way to look at it is what is the difference? He's talking about going one year newer, same mileage, and Dmax for $13,200. Looks spendy to me.
NADA with his zip code, for the Dmax looks to be $28,875 high book, $25,175 low. His trade is hard to tell because he doesn't say if it's a 2500 or 1500, or whether or not it's a 4x4, or which engine. Assuming it's a 2500, has the 6.0 and is a 4x4, it's $18,750 high and $15,825 low and 4x4 is $2600 of that high value. If it's a 1500 it's $16,925 high and $14,125 low, again with $2600 for 4x4 on the high end.
So at this point it really kind of depends on exactly what his trade in is whether or not it's an okay deal book wise. Personally, I wouldn't buy a used truck with that many miles on it per year, and used 4x4's that are clean are extraordinarily difficult to find. But high mileage is the real killer on used vehicle values when they are on the lot.
However that's just my two cents on it, based on my car salesman days...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif
Gray Gmax 04-07-2004, 11:32 AM I paid 24,000 for my 01 GMC CC SLT 4X4 with 40,000 miles last year, of course not from a dealer. So I would suggest looking around. On the other side, there is always something to said about not having to mess with selling your old vehicle.
gsxr1216 04-07-2004, 12:26 PM my NEW '03 GMC 4x4 SLE EC SB D/A stickered for $42,xxx got it for $30k and change, $28k sounds like a LOT of $$ for a used truck to me.....
rickles04 04-07-2004, 01:12 PM OK MY TRUCK WAS 45K AND GOT IT FOR 38 AND THATS THE 0% NOT THE REBATE, SO HOW CAN YOU GET ONE FOR 30K? THATS 15 GRAND OFF THE STICKER ! I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH Edited by: rickles04
White Duramax 04-07-2004, 10:07 PM I gave around $25,000 for mine a year ago with 66,000 miles, 01 ext, lb 4x4, traded my old truck in 94 2500 4x4 reg cab, 6" 35's, 75,000 miles, they gave me 9500$ for trade in, way more than any other dealer would give me for trade.
redneck45 04-07-2004, 10:24 PM Forgot to mention, they gave me 11k for my '98 GMC Z71, I really would have had trouble selling it for that! Went by two days later and they are asking 14k!--I said--have at her! Used vehicles are like cancer around here!
Wickedsprint 04-08-2004, 01:35 AM Ipaid 28k for mine as seen in the sig...brand new after rebates.

uuuhhhh, 42-30 equals 12 off, not 15.....
$5500 in rebates, $6500 off sticker cause of GMS price, $12000 off......
you got $7000 off, had you taken the rebate that would have been up to $9500 off, its pretty easy to get close to $12000 off these days on a $40k plus truck....
Road Master 04-08-2004, 01:17 PM I want to thank everyone for your imput. The truck was so tempting but everyone was concerned about the miles and I agree, it was high. But with not knowing the service history of the previous owner and reading others talk about concerns over injector problems on higher mileage dmax, it would be a real bummer to pay that kind of money then shortly after a 100000 miles need to spend another fortune. At this point I will hold off and keep looking. Thanks again.
rickles04 04-08-2004, 02:15 PM 5500 IN REBATES?
Polarbear 04-08-2004, 06:38 PM Let me throw in a pickup that im looking at. Its at a dealer:03 2500HD Duramax/Allison, Ext cab, shortbox,4x4,LS, between 25-30K(dont remember, sorry). It gots different tires on it, i beleive he said next size up. Real sharp looking truck, its the carbon metallic, he said it was around 30k. Does this seem about in line? I really have no idea on the duramax market, except there hard to find..http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif. I didnt really negoaite price w/them, but i know the family that owns/runs the dealership so maybe thatd help me. I dont think i got much to hope for on trade in. 94 ranger extcab 4.0L 4x2. w/ 87k, its in real nice shape but still....any thoughts appreciated...-Adam
redneck45 04-08-2004, 09:44 PM 5,500 in rebates? WOW, GMS is 4% below invoice period. Add on any other incentives. Currently $3,500.

For what its worth I paid $29770 last july for my 03 dmax cc full load 4x4 (minus the dvd and leather) The salesman i dealt with told me that they are allowed to buy one vehicle @ $100 over cost every two years. Talked him into getting me the deal. GM is makin money on these trucks at full list (mine listed at 45,000 ) You should know the dealers run a three invoice system(or at least they did when I sold cars, thus the in with the salesman, old co-worker) cost, low invoice, and high invoice http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif so if you shop around and hammer them hard enough you should get a better deal Just for sh*ts and giggles I phoned him on an '04 his best price was 35,000 on one equipt the same (I ordered mine in feb last year and didn't get it til july- long story) my .02
65Bowtie 04-08-2004, 11:47 PM I think I got a great price (32K) on mine but I had to wait till Jan to pick up a 05/03 truck. But it was worth the wait and search because any other way I could not afford a 45K truck.
Uncle sam just don't pay as much as is neede to live now a days.
gsxr1216 04-09-2004, 10:26 AM 5500 IN REBATES?
I just looked back at my paper work, it was $5250 in rebates not $5500 this was in August though of last year. $3000 rebate, $1000 Dmax rebate, $750 if you owned another GM vehicle, $500 if you owned another vehicle other than GM. my sticker was 42477, and ended up gving $30500 for the truck.
rickles04 04-09-2004, 02:03 PM GSXR I JUST GOT RID OF WHAT I CALLED THE THRIPLE 0, GSXR 1000....
