: RPM’s!

Wanted to ask you guys if this is normal. - The other day I decided to punch it pretty hard for the first time (Since then a few more times http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif), I noticed that, as the RPM's got to the 2800 range the truck came alive (I'm guessing because of boost at that point) - but the engine tone changed completely and I found myself letting off the go pedel for fear of damage.. - Is the tone change normal up around red line..?

Thanks

I beleive its when the "pilot injection" stops and it goes to regular injection, basically it gets a lot louder since the injection timing changes, mine does the same thing.

gsxr's nailed it, at higher RPM's there isn't enough time to use pilot injection and still get the required amount of fuel in the combustion chamber. BTW fueling boxes may cause pilot injection to be a little different also.

Thanks guys.. - I can relax now.. and hold it up there a little longer when the situation requires it http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif
