: SBC single disc clutch kits
Deadeye 03-30-2006, 02:11 PM South Bend clutch is having some good results for these single disc flywheels! They expect to have kits available for order in the next few weeks. I know there are a number of forum members in need. Please PM me if you think an early order will be needed.
Thanks, and Good Luck,
John

MaxRock 04-11-2006, 10:54 AM Deadeye,
Any update on the SMF/SD clutch setup?
Thanks,
MaxRock
robertleeii 04-11-2006, 07:03 PM what is the expected cost of the single disk set up
DmaxCC6spd 04-21-2006, 01:18 PM Next few weeks have passed! Any updates yet? Have any beta kits been tested? Its time for a clutch!
Deadeye 04-21-2006, 05:48 PM I think it may be a few more weeks but that should be it. SBC was expecting to hear yesterday or today about arrival of the SMF (the big challenge). I hope to get feedback on Monday and will let you know.
DmaxCC6spd 04-21-2006, 05:57 PM Thanks for checkin' Deadeye. I'm hoping to have enough info to be ready for a late May or June install.
Tennessee 3500 04-23-2006, 09:58 PM I talked to Peter, and it is looking like maybe this week the SDC will be in beta.... can't wait, my truck has had 4 DMF's and it well on its way to number 5......hoping to milk it through until the SDC arrives. Have had to run the Extreme Juice on 0 (stock) to avoid all the problems....stay tuned, I'll let you know when I hear something, I'll be in touch with Peter regularly.
Deadeye 04-25-2006, 05:22 PM Peter is expecting a phone call on the status today (as well as the last two business days, as well . . . :) ) The first SMF will hopefully show up this week and Peter has a local dealer who will do the install and test. This will be a couple days after the SMF shows up and the kit is assembled. If everything goes ok then product release should be possible in another 3 weeks or so. Of course, no companies ever have challenges, supplier problems, or schedule delays . . .:D
Try to be patient, once this comes out it will be a very good product from a reliable company . Expect price to be between $900-1000 (could change if problem arises and results in redesign?)
MaxRock 04-25-2006, 07:36 PM Good info Deadeye. Do you have any guesses at what the horsepower rating is for the SMF/SD clutch? The price is right, can't wait for the product.

robertleeii 04-25-2006, 07:43 PM yeah i would like to know how much we could safely throw at the smf/sd clutch also that is so much affordable than the dual disk
yellowgtman 04-26-2006, 01:40 PM What is the difference between this kit for $1000 and the other kit on here that is $1800?

Deadeye 04-26-2006, 03:14 PM What is the difference between this kit for $1000 and the other kit on here that is $1800?
GTMAN
One is a single disc clutch which will handle about 500rwhp. The flywheel is single mass sand cast .
The other is a double disc clutch kit with either organic, ceramic or feramic buttons (plates) on the clutches and bronze feramic buttons on the single mass billet flywheel. There is a floater plate between the two clutch plates (see pics on my website). The metal button kits should handle 1000 rwhp according to South Bend Clutch.
SBC has been around a long time and has been making aftermarket diesel truck flywheel/clutch kits longer than any other company. They have a 12 month warranty and will do repairs and part replacements, if necessary. The three brothers that run the company have 75 years of clutch experience.
yellowgtman 04-26-2006, 07:12 PM So the kit for $1000 should be able to hold my Hot Juice on it's highest setting?
THanks,
GTMAN
Deadeye 04-27-2006, 01:59 AM Yes.
robertleeii 04-27-2006, 07:27 PM the single should hold a hot juice stacked with a predaor too? seems like that should not come close to 500hp.
that makes it sound like the single could hold anything except for like a tts extream, ppe exteram ht or what ever they call it, a bad @$$ stack, or one hell of a efilive tune. seems like the majority of us small power guys are way under the the singles limitations.
mikeyairtime 04-30-2006, 03:20 AM I'm waiting on the single dics and plan to tow a 16,000 pound trailer with it. I'm more or less just looking to replace the POS dual mass flywheel and tow on level 2 or 3 on my six gun. My truck's not my hobby so the extra cost of a dual disc is a big deal to me. Think the single will be up to it. I can tow the trailer with the stock clutch now with the six gun on level 1 (stock) and get no hard pedal etc. Sure would be nice to give it a click or two.
MaxRock 05-03-2006, 08:33 PM Come on Deadeye...enquiring minds want to know!!! What is the latest on the SMF/SD clutch??? What is the timeline for testing and production???
Thanks,
MaxRock
Deadeye 05-04-2006, 12:59 PM I just spoke with Peter at SBC (boy does he get too many phone calls !!!)
Anyhow, the first flywheel for the SD was finished yesterday. It will look just like a DMF except that it will be a single mass. It should be balanced today and forwarded to SBC. When it arrives next week SBC will check the balance since that is the key issue and then check all the dimensions and specs (including bolting it to the crankshaft). The testing will be complete for sure by the end of next week. Assuming (cross your fingers) that everything is ok, SBS will order a lot of flywheels (they already have all the other components). Depending on the the flywheel supplier's priorities, flywheels should arrive at SBC by the end of the month (maybe earlier). Once SBC receives the flywheels they will be able to ship them with in just a day or two (until they run out of them, like has happened before).
SBC needs to receive their cost before they can finalize pricing and then get packaging and weight for shipping quotes. I will try to get some more info towards the end of next week.
Since I will be on travel next week, please call me instead of sending PMs or e-mails (303.882.2181) if you want a quick response, otherwise I will respond next weekend when I return.
Good Luck,
John
