First off I am looking to get a tuner/programmer some time in the near future. I was wondering if anybody could tell me how these tuners create this power and if there is any difference in the way the tuner makes power and the programmer makes power. I was just wondering if one of these are more prone to making the engine malfunction or both about the same. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Tuners and programmers (devices plugged into the port under your dash) actually change the computer program in your truck to make it run differently.

Boxes (under the hood devices plugged into the wiring harness) actually make the stock computer program receive "false" readings (because the box is between the computer and the sensors) therefore it compensates like it is supposed to and makes the power "on its own" but only because its being "lied" to by the box. I hope that somewhat makes sense.

I'm not sure if one or the other is safer for the engine, etc. Many of the boxes have defuel programmed in teh event of trans. slipping to help reduce harm on the trans. I believe the programmers do this as well at shift points but maybe not as much or as efficiently? I'm just not sure on the difference in trans protection between boxes and tuners/programmers.

Best of luck, I think you'll enjoy either one.
