: What I learned about t-bar cranking/green keys

Here is what me and a buddy of mine figured out about our trucks. We both have our torsion bars cranked, mine are maxed and his are almost maxed on one side.

On a stock HD, the lower a-arm rests on the yellow bumpstop and there is a metal stop for the upper a-arm. the metal stop for the upper a-arm is about 2-3" above the upper a-arm.

The more you crank on the bars, the further away the lower a-arm will be from the yellow bumpstop and the closer it will be to the metal stop on the upper a-arm. This is where my bang is coming from. My upper a-arm is so close to the metal stop that it doesn't take much travel to hit it causing a bang.

So our question to those with green keys...will installing the green keys get my lower a-arm back on the yellow bumpstop and my upper a-arm further away from the metal stop to eliminate the banging?

If the green keys does not get the lower a-arm on the yellow bumpstop, then how can the ride be smoother or just as smooth as stock?

Good question, I am still trying to figure out what the "green keys" are.

ChevyHDGert, the green keys will not solve your problem, all they do is allow is more thread showing on the adjuster bolt, so essentially if you "maxed" out on one side it will allow you to adjust more. If you also look at your current keys there is a possibility that it is actually hitting the top of the crossmember that it resides in, green keys will change that. As far as wanting to ride on the yellow bumpstops/jounce bumpers they believe it or not are considered part of the suspension by GM, by getting your LCA off of them will actually make the truck ride smoother. For the upper metal stop there is only one option, cut it and add limiter straps to control suspension droop. You must have your keys really jacked to be so close to them, from the situation you described I would recommend a suspension lift as there are limitations to doing the keys and it seems that you may want more than they can offer. Also just curious to what your tie-rods look like, with so little clearance from the stop to the UCA your must be driving around with the suspension at full droop all the time.

If the green keys will lift other trucks to what I currently have with my stock keys maxed, then how come the green key guys aren't hitting the upper a-arm metal stop?

Gert I looked at mine last night and I have about 3/4" - 1" or so of clearance. I can just slide my fingers and knuckles between them. There was no sign of the UCA hitting the metal stop. Mine is lifted 2" so you guys must have cranked the shizzznitts out of yours to come down and hit the stop. How is your ride with the fully cranked bars?

Gert, maybe they are and just don't know it.

There would have to be a mark or blemish where there was contact between the two steel parts. Nothing but fresh chassis black there.
