Fill out your sig so we can see what kind of mods you have. Black smoke is unburned fuel, no you really dont want it, it usually means the truck is heavily modded. To get a Dmax to pour out loads of black smoke you need to have about a 200+ hp tune. If your truck is stock and dumping out black smoke then you have a problem.

yeah my truck is stock , there is no upgrades at all, and its not so much black smoke that i cant see whats behind me, but enough to see coming out of the exhaust pipe, so if i have a stock duramax and i floor it the exhaust should be clear?

Not completely, mine puffed a little bit when it was stock, but not very much.

Smoke is one of those things that is very hard to discribe. Our trucks are going to make smoke, they are still diesel engines. Just how much and at what level is what can tell you if something is wrong.

Like durymcgee said, that is normal and I would not worry about it.

Mine was doing that, I took it in and they found the injectors were sticking open. I have 8 new injectors now, hopefully this thing will get some decent mileage now, it never has before.

Keep us posted with your mpg. The best I got on my LB7 is 15 mpg average
