Hey,
That explains everything!! Ask him what year this is? And also ask him who's 350 block it was? If he answers something like "Chev!! No one else made a 350!! " Then you know he knows squat!!
Yibbutkeen 03-25-2006, 09:14 PM He has also said that Hummer people who try to mod the motor are never happy.
I'm gonna have to get back to you on that one. I suspect he's going to be wrong again.

He doesn't even have the basic math right. He's thinking about the very first 5.7L Diesel that Detroit released for the GM line. There's a few of those diesel 5.7L cars and trucks still running around...The 6.2L and 6.5L were of larger displacement, approaching 400 CID. The assumption that the early block was just a converted gas 350 is totally wrong.

Hey,
It was a 350 Olds gasser converted to a diesel. Joe Mondello actually sold a kit to convert it back to gas again. It was done inhouse by GM. I don't think Detroit had anything at all to do with it!! That was just assumed because GM owned Detroit Diesel at the time!!

Tragically Daimler Chrysler owns Detroit Diesel now, and their current quality suffers as a result. What a screaming tragedy!
Chicago TDP 03-26-2006, 03:31 AM If you want, he can have my address and I will tech him the ways of the 6.5 and the brutal beating it have on his sissy lil' panzy a$$.
I will take his Heep-O-Jeep and tug it all round tills its a little pile of scrap.
gmctd 03-26-2006, 11:30 AM Pretty sure it was Freightliner that bought Detroit Diesel from GM - FL's now come exclusively with DD engines.
TedReminder 03-26-2006, 01:05 PM Roger Penski bought Detroit Diesel from GM around 1987. I was working there at the time.
Ted
I don't go for the Jeep bashing as there are few vehicles that will go offroading like a Wrangler, but he probably has a Grand Cherokee with a 6cyl.! Does he have Full-time 4WD? That was a piece of crap transfer case. The Grand Cherokee is a glorified Grocery-Getter (this coming from a guy that owns one!)
This fella obviously does not know what he is talking about and should be considered a source for mis-information. Many of those Jeep guys are brain washed by their friends.
Scrufdog 03-26-2006, 06:41 PM dont worry i dont rely on him for any information. I've forgetten more about cars than he'll ever learn
joispoi 03-26-2006, 07:09 PM I don't want to be the one to bust your bubbles guys, but I had a 1998 grand cherokee 5.9L limited before I got the suburban. That car was fast as hell. Not that I wouldn't want to see a race, but I don't think a 6.5 would even come close. It was definitely faster than my old camaro (if it was raining, and I was driving 50mph in the camaro, the rear tires would break loose if I gave it enough gas:eek: )
With that said, when we had the grand cherokee, it used to vacation at the jeep dealership. Sometimes it would take a week off. Sometimes it would take 6 weeks off....it was tempermental like that.
I'll add my vote to telling him his mama dresses him funny:D
gmctd 03-26-2006, 07:15 PM Well I guess - a FI 360 V8 in a vehicle meant for a 4.0 six!
Son's Magnum 318 in a Dakota is fairly quick, 'specially on depleting a tank of fuel !
WilliamBos 03-26-2006, 09:36 PM Pretty sure it was Freightliner that bought Detroit Diesel from GM - FL's now come exclusively with DD engines.
Hey,
They come with Mercedes engines too!! My Dad's truck has a MBE 4000 in it. What a monster!! Thankfully GM kept The Allison Division!!
torqueofthetown 03-27-2006, 12:54 AM Pretty sure it was Freightliner that bought Detroit Diesel from GM - FL's now come exclusively with DD engines.
Diamler-Benz owns Freightliner. You can connect the dots from there.
If DC would ever wise up and put the Detroit Diesel 4.0L Delta V6's in the Dakotas, I'm sure they couldn't keep up with demand.....ok I'll stop daydreaming now):h
guybb3 03-27-2006, 06:34 AM I say we paint a bullseye on the punk's a$$ and parachute him into a prison courtyard!!
murph 03-27-2006, 12:11 PM apparently he's a Jeep guy, or learning to be one. He just got a Grand Cherokee, so thats gotta be part of his problem.
Hey now...Some of us Heep folks actually do 'wheel them more than at the mall...:D
