I went to my Mobil distributer and picked up a case.I didn't see a name change or a discontinued product. All I seen was a NEW bottle new label same name.

I think they said Mobil 1 5w-40 Truck and SUV, not the Delvac 1.

Ya... T&SUV is now 5w30.
The ONLY difference on the bottle is a small (about half the size of the API badge) helios that says "FOR GASOLINE ENGINES"
http://www.mobil1.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Oils/Mobil1_Truck_SUV_5W30.aspx

To add to the confusion... I've seen both the old 5w40 T&SUV and the new 5w30 T&SUV (it's an API SM) on the shelves at WalMarts a couple of miles apart.

They haven't had 5qt jugs since November.

How much did you pay per gallon?

Rich, what we were talking about yesterday on this subject, I looked at my last recipt and its:
Premium Blue Extreme Synthetic 5w40. It was $61 last change.

Ya... I looked at the Valvoline web site and saw it.

Dunno if it's a G3 or G4, but really, it's not THAT big of a deal unless you're pushing the change intervals.

I'd absolutely have no hesitation to go 7500 on that stuff.

I don't recall off hand Joey but I'll look up the invoice Monday when I get back in the office.

Last time I got Delvac 1 it was about $30 per gallon iirc.

That's a lot of cash. Amsoil is only $50 for a 10 qt jug.

It's $56 plus shipping retail... $43 is dealer/preferred customer price.

But ya... that's a lot. I used to get T&SUV for $22 per jug at Wally World (2 needed).

That's why I first changed to Rotella 5w-40 syn and then Mobil 1 Truck and SUV when it was available. The price of the Delvac 1 was killing me.

After picking up two jugs of the "new" Truck and SUV and not realizing that they changed the contents until the second jug was just about drained into the crankcase, I've switched to Rotella 5W40. It would have been fine if they had made a big change in the label, but with the two side by side, they are WAY to similar. I wonder how many people have/will dump(ped) the 5W30 in their diesels and not notice it? Idiots @ Mobil.

You would be the 3rd here at DP.

The major snafu is that the reformulated (or merely relabelled) CI-4 blend won't be released until mid-April.
I think if Mobil had put both on the shelves at the same time, the new "TURBO DIESEL" lettering would have drawn enough attention to help people avoid the mistake.

But noooooooooooooooooooooo. I probably would have done the same thing.

That's a good price no doubt.I get a better break with quantity ,but I'm not looking to get into the business. :)

That's still a good chunk of money at $75 per oil change. What is so great about this oil that someone would pay 50% more than amsoil?

Proper grade diesel oil with API rating as required. There was also a TSB for 'winter' climate and viscosity in order to keep oil pressure in acceptable levels at cold start up and running.

I know when I ran 15w 40 in the winter my needle was pegged for a long long time driving.GM released a TSB not long after.

The only Amsoil that I'm aware of with the API starburst isn't the recommended viscosity for or GM diesel.

Mobil Synthetic is highly recommended and an approved diesel engine lubricant by Cat Cummings to name a few.

RichLockyer

Both their 15w40 and 5w30 are CI-4+

The "Starburst" is ILSAC.... not sure I've ever seen anything but the "donut" on a Diesel-rated oil.

The new M1 T&SUV 5w30 has the starburst (what I referred to above as a helios), and says "For Gasoline Engines" inside the burst.

I had planned to change to synthetic on my second oil change, so I was disappointed when I read on Diesel Place that the 5W-40 would not be available until mid-April. I was in TruckPro, a big truck supplier here in Baton Rouge, on Thursday and was surprised to see the Mobil 1 Devlac in gallons for $23. I bought the last 4 gallons they had, and asked the counter man to order another case. I had the guy call around for some before he made the order, and he found the quarts of Mobil 1 Truck & SUV 5W-40 at the O'Reilly's Auto Parts right down the street. Anyone needing some before the new product is released may want to check with Truck Pro or O'Reilly's Autoparts.

Add me to the list of idiots that changed my oil yesterday with 5w30 Truck & SUV. I can't believe they completely changed the product but NOT the name. The label looks the same to me. I bet the new Mobil 1 Diesel product will be more expensive to compete with Delvac 1. I have been a Mobil 1 fan for a long tome but a $50+ one day oil change is enough to make me think twice about ever buying their products again.

I just pulled up the Amsoil HD 15w-40 Synthetic in a 2.5 gallon jug. $68 delivered    Add a filter and it's $80 per change. I'm going to look for some Rotella 5-40 synthetic today. Its around $13 a gallon here. It might not be real synthetic but the price is right. Not sure I will be able to switch back to Mobil 1 after this. How many friggen times is Mobil 1 going to re-label their products? :badidea:

The 5w 30 clearly says FOR GASOLINE ENGINES! I can't see how Mobil is to blame.

The new Delvac I 5w 40 has a new label.

No question it was a blunder. However, it is pretty bad that the product has completely changed and its still labeled Truck & SUV. I usually trust that when I return to the store and see the same LARGE PRINT on the label that the product is the same. If they were going to completely change the product they should have changed the bottle graphics and/or the name of the product.

I'm not attempting to defend this blunder, because I think it IS a big mistake to not change the major graphics (I mean, they added/deleted text, how hard would it have been?) But it is still for "Trucks and SUVs" just gasser trucks and SUVs!

Spend the extra $20 to become a "preferred buyer" and you'll get dealer pricing.
The 15w40 is $43 and the filter is $13.
I paid a total of $140 with shipping and tax for enough "goodies" to do the oil in both the DA and my wife's Rav4, including both oil filters and 4 quarts of 5w shock oil for my dirt bike ($6.90/qt).

For a comparison on shipping, 5 gallons of TorqueDrive and two hand pumps was $13.86, so figure that 2.5 gallons and a filter will be less than that.

I just ran the basic order (oil and filter) and with shipping and California 7.75% sales tax the total was $70.

Flip those bottles around... what's the API rating on the 5w30?

When I pulled up the web site this am I thought it said I had to have a referring dealer to become a dealer and get the discount. I'm ready to try something new. Delvac 1 is a PITA by mail because you get more than enough for one change and not enough for two. No response so far from Mobil and I rather doubt I will hear from them. I know it was my mistake but I still think it's pretty crappy. I wonder how many guys look at a bottle of Delvac to make sure it's still for diesels and check the oil weight before they use it. The worse part is we were in the store and my wife asked me "Are you sure you can use the same oil for both of our trucks?" ARRRRRggghhh. :exactly:

I wouldn't expect a response from an email very quickly.
I'd be on the phone and writing an actual letter... like I said, with copies of both receipts.

Now the relable for the Delvac 1 for retail consumers is Mobil 1 turbo diesel engine formula...

I did not read the whole thread...so forgive me if this is a duplicate post...

Is this a good price?... delivered to me by a local distributor

MOBIL DELVAC 1, 4X1 GA $ 97.53 = $24.38 gal
MOBIL DELVAC 1, 5 GA $120.42 = $24.08 gal

priced if I buy three pails...but I just don't need three...anyone local interested in a pail we might could get something done...

Back to the Diesel engine formula...

However...if they come out with the 5 qt. jug for $20+ it will be a better value for sure...

Received a response from Mobil 1 and they are refunding the cost of the oil. I am very pleased with that.
