: Love my power pup
simtare 03-24-2006, 10:04 PM I have had my power pup on my LBZ for a couple of weeks now. I ran it on tow/econ for 10 days and performance mode for last few days. No problems either way, great power, smooth operation...bought it from Diesel Performance Parts...a supporting vendor...great product..great vendor..just passing along the info. Sim
Dogface1SG 03-24-2006, 11:09 PM can't wait to try mineCensored they are doing an update for my computer currently.
RichLockyer 03-25-2006, 01:33 AM Be very very careful guys...
My '06 LLY put 350hp to the dyno on "Performance"
Now, we haven't yet been able to verify whether the LLY and LBZ run the same power levels with the tuner, but even assuming that they do, 350hp to the rollers is going to be somewhere around 400-420 at the crank.
400hp has long been an informally accepted max to run into the stock Allison and still expect it to live.
So add to this, there are some extra things going on in the trans... C1 and C2 now have more holding pressure, but C3 does not, AND it has an extra engage/disengage step on the 5-6 shift. Mike has pulled "burned" (not failed) C3 clutch packs out of 6spds running behind STOCK LBZ motors.
4rotorCorvette 03-25-2006, 07:00 AM Thanks for the Ally info. I got my Power Pup yesterday for the LBZ and we love it!!! Insane acceleration and tire destruction on Tow/Economy. It has full exhaust and intake and it may be nearing 400 whp on the 1st setting so I'm scared to try Performace. I really feel that it can easily keep up with a CC SRT-10 now. Awesome and we're getting 17 mpg.
RichLockyer 03-25-2006, 05:21 PM Would you mind putting it on a chassis dyno, preferably Mustang, to see what you're actually getting?
Performance would be nice, but Tow/Econ will still give us something to compare.
BTW: With the programmer, the DIC lies about fuel economy... you're probably burning 1-1.5 gallons more than indicated per tank.
hvyw8t 03-25-2006, 10:39 PM Rich, so your saying that the allison cant handle the power output of a stock lbz? Sounds fishy .

It's pushing the limits of the stock tranny.
There have not been FAILURES on stock engines, but the C3 pack has shown signs of heat damage.
Not good. Is it an issue of simply too much power, or the Dex-VI is not the best fluid? Dunno... maybe a combination.
Myself? Next week my Allison is getting a Transgo revalve and complete flush to TorqueDrive.

We have allready talked about this on the phone. C3s are allways burnt on a stock trans. I will rephrase that. Black burn marks on the inside diameter of the C3s are evident within 700 miles of a new truck. Will this actually mean anything on a totaly stock Duramax? Most times no. The black marks on the inside of the C3 clutches indicate lack of lubrication on a clutch that works its a$$ off. The 6speed Ally is putting the C3 through another heat cycle strain that is living on the edge allready. I believe if in fact the 6speed begins to cycle 6-5, 5-6 under load , it will kill the trans. The C3 never gets a chance to cool.Rich,
I don't know if you ever saw this post by Mike L., but it doesn't sound like burnt C3s on stock trucks are anything new. Unless I'm reading it, wrong which is possible.
RichLockyer 03-26-2006, 01:55 AM Ya, I saw that, and that's why I repeated that he hasn't actually seen FAILURES, but.....
With added power, be vewy vewy careful.
This goes double for the LBZ.
The BullyDog on Extreme has proven to be "Insta-Limp" on '06 LLY and LBZ
Rathead 03-28-2006, 07:23 PM I have mine on extreme, and there has been no limp mode at all. A friend of mine that installs them says one will limp...one won't and can't figure out why one will work fine and the next limps.
RichLockyer 03-28-2006, 09:01 PM Firewall the throttle and hold it there through 6th.
Hey Mike.... do I get a commission? :D
DSTRBD 03-30-2006, 03:00 PM We have not had any issues here with limping the trans. So far Alli has been up to the task with Power Pup on max.

How has your mileage been on that setting? Is it better or worse than the level 1 (50 hp) setting?
Rathead 04-01-2006, 08:40 AM Hmmmm. worse, cause I can't drive like a normal person anymore...lol
