I recently purchased Greg's (Lube Specialists) secondary fuel filter system for my 2004 Duramax. I want to install a inline ball valve as a secondary, (pre-OEM) fuel cut-off valve. I am planning to install the valve in the secondary, pre-OEM filter, filter supply side. I don't want to get drenched with diesel fuel each time I change the filter. Has anyone undertaken this taskhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Question.gif What part number did they use. http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Question.gif Any help would be quite useful.
Thanks!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Smile.gifEdited by: Jeff1

I just installed a RK-32313 Fuel filter and was going to installed a shutoff valve and also a guage (-30 to +30). I when to the hardware store an purchased a 1/2" brass ball valve. My cousin who worked on diesel for 30 yrs. said it might work but it might not hold up an leak. Well anyway I didn't install valve. Swagelock make's a very good leak proof ball valve. I have used them at a factory where I was working. But now I don't know how to contact Swagelock. Maybe somehow you can find out. I know they are pricy. Good luck

GMC-DMAX,
Greg (Lube Specialist) advised me to use the orange colored hose clamps to restrict the flow of fuel during the installation of the secondary fuel filter kit. I will spill some fuel, however, I expect to get the rubber hose on the fuel lines quickly. Greg made the point that if I install a ball valve it would be subject to possible leakage and failure. I agree with his thinking and have decided to use the hose clamps. The clamps are available at Auto Zone; I bought two. However, the counter dude didn't have a clue what I was wanting to purchase. I searched the store and found them in the tool section. I will install my secondary fuel kit next weekend, hopefully.
Good Luck and thanks for the reply.

Greg is right the ball valve could leak and cause problem's. The swagelock ball valve is the way. For I used them on very high pressure and also large and small flow. They would hold up. The only problem is at the ends how they are hook up or tighten.
I just installed my fuel filter and I used the rubber stopper (small) and slid them into the hose end. As far as fuel coming out, all's I had was about 1 pint of fuel. Make sure you open up the fill cap first and let the pressure out, you won't hear anything but it will relieve the pressure. I have ramps I drove my truck on, the front of the truck was about 2 ft high, this lower the tank so this let most of the fuel from the factory fuel filter flow back. Just take your time there is no rush like I thought. Good luck and double check everything you do.
