So I got myself into quite the situation yesterday.....I went to the Co-op agro centre to grab some things....and thought I would grab some fuel for my 6.5.....I told the gas attendent that I wanted diesel......she asked if I wanted it filled.......and I said yes......after that I went in the store and began to shop for the few things I wanted to grab...on the way out I payed for the fuel and went on my way.....Now 10 miles down the road my truck starts to sputter ......and I was thinking it was my lift pump acting up again since it had been replaced about a month ago.....but it was the same symptoms of a faulty lift pump........when I got to my destination 10 miles away from the fuel place.....my truck jus stalled....and would not start.....I thought what the hell.....the dumb brod prolly put gasoline in here I kinda laughed.....I opened up my bleeder valve on the fuel filter and then turned the ignition ....and fuel shot out so I knew it was getting fuel......but the smell of the fuel was somewhat gasoline......and I thought...SHI T ON ME!!!......now what!?!?!?.....anybody know if this will seriously harm my motor??.....I'm going to the place where I bought my fuel today to lay the SMACKDOWN!!.....

This is why I never let anyone put fuel in my truck.

Being that you actually ran the motor for 10 miles or until it quit you have a serious problem.

Your likely going to be needing an IP and possibly injectors sooner than normal if not immediately. I would insist on them paying to replace the IP and injectors even if it does start running after a flush.

If your lucky no piston damage.

I had this happen, but I discovered it before I actually ran the truck. The mechanic who drained the tank told me that if you run it on gas very far or until it quits your screwed.

Had a burbon at work that people kept putting gas in. The IP died an early death.

Try to get them to admit fault before you actually let them know how bad it is. Down play the problem until they admit fault. Then take it too a really good GM diesel mechanic to have it checked completely. The Chevy dealer may not have a good mechanic for your truck.

Never happened to me personally, but the general consensus of the experts is that while it is a nuisance, it is probably not terminal.

Side note:

A friend of mine's old lady took her new car to Saturn Dealer for first oil change and they forgot to put oil in or something like that. She made it home but it naturally sounded like crap.

Saturn's concensus was that it would not hurt it.
:)

Had it simply quit after the gas was in it I would say flush and lubricate. Since it ran like crap and finally quit some, although possibly little damage is done. On our suburban the drivers would say it's knocking real bad on several occasions. The IP actually died after a few times of putting gas in. It probably never got a serious dose of gas that it would actually stop running. Just enough to make it knock like crazy.

Okay....so I went down there and talked to the manager.....there was actually no problem with them admitting who was at fault....they got my truck towed to a local shop in town here and they dropped the tank....cleaned the fuel out....put all new fuel in.......bleeded off all the fuel lines and away she went.......so I talked to the mechanic for a couple of minutes and I asked him ......maybe there is nothing *****ed now but what about a month or 2 down the road.....then what??.....he said that he was going to give me a copy of the work order to have as proof....and if anything does go wrong then at least I can show proof as to what happened and it's not going to be here say.......and all of the work that was done is of course on their tab!!.......

Run until it wouldn't run huh.....

If you don't have any troubles for 6 months you may be good but i think your troubles may just be begining. Hope your luck holds out, if it were mine it would never have run again... lol

Drain it refill it, purge it and run it. You are not the first and won't be the last. Your fuel system will likely be just fine...

If it runs fine then it's O.K.. Gas won't hurt the fuel system. To hurt the engine or pump you would have to drive a lot more miles forcing it to go. I don't think that's occured here. Glad the store owned up to it and took care of it for you, that was nice. Seen lots of other places say tough sh**t.

my 94 was filled with gas in 97 and ran until it quit. Drained the tank, changed the filter and added a full bottle of power service. It ran great until the IP went south in 2005.

A friend of mine always puts Dexron in his tank.....like I dunno.....half a litre or so pretty much every time he fills up.....jus so everything stays lubricated.....

I think everything in my truck is fine....I drove it for 10 miles.....it sputtered a couple of times for like 5 seconds while driving on the highway....then when I got to my destination I put it in PARK, then it idled sluggish....I hit the throttle a little bit.....the rpm's went up to like 1500 rpm...then she stalled.......so I don't think it hurt things to much......

Unless your truck ran like this before they filled it with gas... your statement does not sound Fine to me...it sounds F$#^ed up to me

....the fact that its stalling.

This is after all the cleaning out of the gas right? Still air in the system maybe??

Every year someone does this at my shop. We drain the tank, change the filter and add an extra dose of fuel conditioner. We havn't had any long term issues yet.

This is why I never let anyone put fuel in my truck.

Or at least watch them start to fuel to make sure they use Diesel fuel rather than gas.

I think he meant that stalling was what happened when it had gas in the tank. In other words, it didn't run for long with gas, and therefore probably didn't do much damage.

I don't think its stalling now that everything has been flushed.

Yes...exactly what Stingray said....it stalled when there was gas in it....what had happenend was....I got filled up.....took off....drove 10 miles with it....and at about 7 or 8 miles...it ran a little sluggish for a couple of secs.....then ran fine...when I got to my destination...I threw it in PARK....it idled really bad....it was bairly running.....do I hit the throttle a bit....and then she stalled.....that's what happened......

and what they did at the shop was exactly what Charlie said....drained the fuel tank...change the fuel filter.....bled off all the fuel lines.....and away she went.....

As for watching them to make sure they put diesel in instead of gas....I guess now I will....didn't really think to much of it because I told them when I went into the store to put diesel in it.....I didn't think that was really hard to figure out.....I guess they had a really bad brain fart or something....cuz they put gas in.....sucks to be me.....

but the truck seems to be running good....so.....we'll see.....like I said...I don't think it hurt things to bad......I'll keep my fingers crossed though
