i have the juice attitude , and i was wondering if i will see a difference with the afe intake , or just leave it stock . i think i read someone said the intake just adds noise and no power , is this true?

I picked up almost 20hp with the AFE stage II on the dyno over a stock box with an 8,000 mile old UNI. Bad Attitude on level 5.... 145hp setting. Others have not seen the same gain. So its up to you. It looks cool and the turbo whine sounds neat.

Trippin, was the 20hp picked up from burning paint in the combustion chamber?

And is the turbo whine really the paint being ground up like a super high speed blender ?

It appears my pipe was headed in the same direction as Tulsas but thanks to his post I caught it early.

Yes, on one hand lets not start a fiasco with AFE, but on the other hand, there IS a problem out there and we have no idea how many pipes are affected...

Guys,

I just checked my AFE tube. It looks brand new inside! I did a sweep with a white cloth and it came out clean as well. Somehow I dodged both this and the Uni bullet.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Shocked.gif

I installed the AFE stage II non-proguard/no-sock Feb. 20th approx. 2,500 miles ago.

Right now I'm feeling like the luckiest man in the world. I'm going out right now and buy a lottery ticket!

It will be interesting to see if AFE stands behind their product. Although I really would prefer a plastic tube for heat sink reasons.

so would the stage 1 do just as well as the stage 2 . looks like the only dif is the tube correct ? i surely do not want to chance it with the painted one . unless someone can confirm this problem is taken care of ?

How about a fully polished T-304 stainless steel tube and stainless steel air box? No paint to peel and no rust to deal with.

What's everyone think?

The shop I deal with ordered an AFE setup for my truck (04 dmax) and it did not fit and also had an extra bung for an air line hook up. Any other 04's have this issue when the kit was sent?

thanks, Don Miller

can someone confirm if the stage one works as good as the stage 2 ? is there really any benefit over the stock tube to the metal ?

Talked with a local performance shop about the "paint" issue. He indicated that he has sold hundreds of these AFEs and never has had a return for any quality problem, except the "fit" issues, and he felt all were resolved OK.

I have the AFE stage II and like it. Checked the tube and all is well, and NO dirt. I am upgrading to the ProGard7 media, just gus.

The original question, get more air into it, get more power (more is better than stock, how much, well I feel it and hear it)http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

If you work the truck, more air through the engine results in lower EGTs, a good thing.

The stock tube is restrictive BY DESIGN. I would vote for a polished SS tube. It would look sweet.

As per my note sent upon processing the order, it is coming to you direct from AFE. I can't "unpull the trigger" now...

I'm told the pipe length is corrected, but am withholding my stock order until I have the new pipe in hand and fit is verified...Edited by: Kennedy
