Is this right? Ive read a few threads stating I need my valves adjusted at 100K miles. Is this true. In all honesty I HAVE NEVER HEARD THIS. Im at 106K with a 2002 DMAX I never read this or heard of this in the past 4 years. Do they adjust the spring rate, clearance or what.....Im kinda calling Shanagans on this. When was this stated?. The only time I have ever heard of valve adjustment was the valve lash on our Cat at 50K......and my 4 stroke Shindawia leaf blower

whats the details

My Helm factory manual doesn't mention anything about a service interval for valve adjustment. It is true that the duramax does NOT have hydraulic lifters, they are a solid lifter roller cam, and the service manual does give a procedure for adjusting them.

Any mechanics out their that know if they need adjusting.

Most all diesel engines require that the valves be ran at 100K. This is the adjustment of valve lash or valve clearance as some would word it. Mechanical or solid lifter valve train will show some wear and need adjustment at approx. 100K. Nobody is B/S you.

Inquiring minds want to know??????

I have never heard of this, but as loud as my truck is now at 70k, I would believe it needs to be done??

I know the Duramax is quiet for a diesel, but I still think It would be hard to hear a lose valve train.

I didn't know that the Duramax used solid rollers. 100K sounds like a long time, without adjusting a solid lifter cam.

Guess I'm gonna have to check into doing mine soon if all this is true.
