ac692000 03-23-2006, 03:29 PM i have done many searches on here for this topic; if i overlooked it i apologize. i am looking to buy a used 05 truck. the guy says it has a "6.6L V8 FI TURBO DSL" engine. this truck says to be a "C/K Pickup 2500 duramax". what exactly does all of this mean. i'm used to seeing 2500HD. thanks in advance. 96vette 03-23-2006, 03:49 PM Ok the c/k means its a 4x4 if it just had a "c" in front of the numbers like C2500 means its a 2 wheel drive 3/4 ton,if it has a c/k2500 then its a 3/4 ton 4 wheel drive. 1500 = 1/2 ton, 2500 = 3/4 ton, 3500 = 1 ton, the 2500HD is allmost a 1 ton which the differance between a 2500hd and a 3500 is about 400 more pounds in payload capacity for the 3500 (not much) 6.6L V8 FI TURBO DSL means its a V8 fuel injected turbo diesel, the Duramax is chevys name for there diesels which is a Isuzu design and built by chevy, hope this helps. ac692000 03-23-2006, 03:51 PM thanks 96vette. that helps alot. i am very new to the jargon on here. i don't actually have my truck yet, working on that part. so this truck should have the LLY with Allison tranny? thanks for the quick response. Cobra#3747 03-23-2006, 04:33 PM actually its just a c2500 for 2wd and just a k2500 for 4wd, never both letters together. To see, just look for the c or the k on the 5th digit of the vin number. Also just for FYI if the vin (5th and 6th digit) reads: C1= 2wd 1500 C2= 2wd 2500 C3= 2wd 3500 K1= 4wd 1500 k2= 4wd 2500 k3= 4wd 3500 ac692000 03-23-2006, 04:37 PM great info cobra. now i know how to tell what i'm looking at by the vin.
