Well,
With 48,000 miles, about 500 towing, on an otherwise underutilized '02 dually, the HEAVY DUTY Allison transmission took a sh!t. On a drive back from greensboro to charlotte, I stopped to fill-up. When I pulled into the station, the transmission slipped, and the SES light lit up. Pulled up to the pump and got out to fill-up and guess what, there was transmission fluid covering every inch of my undercarriage. Heavy Duty, what a bunch of crap. Truck is in the dealership right now. I will post more when I get more info.

Hope it is not the TQ Conv bolts. That would be bad at 48K. Good luck!

Mcfly,

The only real consistent problem that the Ally has is the TC mounting bolts. They didn't get torqued properly on install and work loose over time. THis caused the rediculously long mounting lugs welded to the convertor to crack and rip a hole in the TC cover. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif

You then get the standard dextron III undercoat. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

When you talk to the dealer they are gonna say your out of warranty, unless you went extended. Believe me I feel your pain, mine went at 50 something. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

The dealer price for the same TC and install is 2K+ I said screw rthat and went with a suncoast stage 2 for the same money, mine hasn't even hiccuped since then.

If you want to go stock check out gmpartsdirect.com or work with Eric @ gmdieseltech.com He is a member here and posts in the Tech section a lot.

Good luck! and don't feel bad about the ally, it is more of a installation problem than an engineering one. This tranny rocks.

Another big problem is if the rear ujoints are bad the will cause the rear housing of the trans to crack around where tcase mounts.

The initial indication from the dealer is the goddamn converter is leaking. Not sure if it is the bolts or the converter is cracked. This dealer has had several converters with those puney (sp) welds cracked. Doesn't look like a HEAVY DUTY transmission if you ask me. Way too much tin/sheet metal in that thing. Should know something more tomorrow.
