I was flipping through the pages of that magazine Diesel Power or whatever its called and I saw the future diesels that are coming to market and they mentioned that as early as the release of the GMT900 series this fall they will be offering a 4.9 duramax diesel in the half ton pickups. This is the first I have heard of this and was wondering if anyone else has any information on it. If they make this I will be the first one at the dealer to order one.

Nobody else reads this magazine or has heard about this new engine?

It's all just speculation at this point. I hope it does happen but we won't know until GM officially announces it and they are on the showroom floors.

One of the problems is the added cost of the diesel engine option and emissions equipment pushing the gas to diesel break-even point further out. One study showed a 2007 diesel truck at 15k miles/year would take over 10 years to break even and 15k is about the average distance driven per year for most. That sucks!

I've heard speculation of a V6 Duramax in a half-ton test mule running around the GM test facility. I never got too excited because A) I had my heart set on a 3/4 ton with the 6.6L, and B) they'll probably never offer it with a manual transmission. What a waste if it only has the Hydramatic POS behind it!! Handshakers rule!:ro)

I am really hoping they will offer it in the gmt900 trucks. I have my old psd for beating the crap out of at work, and would love to have a light, nice riding diesel for a daily driver, especially if it could break the 20mpg barrier. I think someone is going to offer it in the next year or two, and it is going to be a big seller.
