ok here is the low down on the injector issues or rumor on why gm has revamped the injector for the third time.
1.01-to mid 02 gm was finding that the injector housing
was craking causing them to leak
2.mid 02-current. gm is finding that the injector silnoid
and hydrulic circuit are gitting build up in them causing the unit to stay open.
reason why we are replacing all 8 the ones that are difective are tossed the ones ok are reman.
this will bring the cost down even more. tech assitant said in the next year you will see the injector go most likly to around 90-150 dollars as the lly becomes more popular. thats th scoop form gm tech assist.hope i can help.Patrick

Patrik,
Just had my injectors replaced at 60,000.
What are you talking about?

Are you saying LLY injectors will have a postive effect on LL7 injector costs? Are they the same?

The LLY injectors are not the same unit. The internal parts may be similar.
Hopefully the $90-$150 figure includes the LB7 injectors also. At a $100 per unit, it would not be too expensive to just replace all 8 (~$1000 + labor). That figure is a little easier to accept (than $4-5K).
Patrick - thank you for your input. A lot of people are still waiting to hear from Eric (Dmaxallitech) with respect to his conversations with the DMAX Lmtd rep.Edited by: OC_DMAX

Hi Patrick,
I don't know how the injector is put together, so I have a few silly questions - also build date of my truck is december '02, so I guess I only have to worry about them sticking. Is the part that sticks lubricated by the diesel fuel. Will regular use of a lubricity/cleaner additive prevent problems with "build up" in the injectors? (I am using stanadyne lubricity and also stanadyne performance formula)
I did notice my truck run smoother after the stanadyne additives cleaned up the injectors - it was starting to smoke and run rough in the morning prior to my first use.
I was wondering how many of these problems are just dirty injectors - I remember seeing a post from one guy saying he had rough running at 3-5k miles - dealer told him to add stanadyne performance formula and it cleared right up...
Also, your statement above sounds like you are throwing away the old injectors - one thing I was thinking is that if they are replacing all 8, then they will now have a heck of alot of "cores" to work with - but not if you throw 'em in the trash...
