I am looking for information on exhaust systems for an '04 duramax. I was talking with a rep. from flowmaster and he told me they only have single systems because dual systems take power away from the turbo and that a single system will give you better performance. Then I called MBRP, Inc. and asked about their systems. Their rep. told me that there are insignificant perfomance differences between the single and duals, but that the duals do not take power away from the turbo. Basically duals are for looks not better performance in the diesels.
I am new to the diesel world and not really sure who to believe. Any info is greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long post.

Since there is only one turbo there is only one exhaust stream. The turbo doesn't really care if you want to split the flow in two downstream, but there's nothing to be gained except possibly the aesthetic appeal of symetrical tips. To me dual exhaust on a rig with only one turbo seems kind of dishonest . . . while I'll admit running a '70 C-10 with 6-250 fender badges and a well silenced 350 V-8 with an intentionally noisy fan, single exhaust, 4.10 posi, TH-350 http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif, I wouldn't run a configuration which imply modifications that I haven't done (like twin turbo's) on my truck. A well done sleeper I can admire, but a poser. . .http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Throw Up.gif That's why my D-max won't ever have more than one exhaust pipe. . . even if I do bomb it someday.

So does it still count as posing if you throw a flatbed on a chassis-cab and put vertical pipes at the back corners of the cab.

cb1112,
You have been told a tall tale by those folks. DPPI has been selling the MBRP duals for the Duruamx, Dodge and Power Strokes for over a year now, there is NO loss of performance at all. In fact there is a slight, and I mean VERY slight improvement in HP and a VERRRRY slight decrease in EGT and again I mean very slight. If you have any questions we will be glad to help you with them just call us.
