: Feedback on oil analysis?

Got my oil analysis back and was just wondering what everyone thought? Is it normal? Keep in mind this is my first oil change. Truck has 2K miles.

Iron 16

Chromium 1

Lead 23

Copper 124

Tin 17

Aluminum 3

Nickel 0

I know the copper and the silicon are high!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif Under the recommendations, it says that this is normal for the break-in. Just wondering if everyone agrees. I figure I'll put 3K miles on and change it again, and see what happens!

I'd change again at say 1500, and 2,00 miles which may already be past. I'd rather not leave the filth in the engine.

Thanks,

Is this much dirt normal in a new engine though?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

I believe the proper word is typical.

Something that I've been observing along with others since I purchased my 2002. Mine was only 68 at worst, but still high.

Change, change, change. Fumoto drain valve will make life easier. You could even cheat and just drop the bulk of the oil without doing the filter. Be sure it is plenty warm and drain ASAP after shutdown.

Changing mine every 5000. GM says 10,000 ok

My next one will be 50, 250, 500, and 1000 to see if the silicon is time releasing or if it just needs to be flushed out...

I did something very similar, but I did no analysis. I believe it is very common to all engines that have sand cast aluminum parts.
