Joing the club! Mine does the SAME THING.

When new, started up immediately. I think I'm going to wear the starter out now. Dealer says injectors fine - BS. Something is wrong.

I'll let ya know when I know what it is

Mine has been doing this for the last couple of months and now its really bad. Starts fine at first but needs to sit for a hour after warmed up before it will start again. Fuel smell is now stronger from the exhaust and blows more smoke on any quick take off...

Take it to the dealer and have your balance rates checked, sounds like you need injectors. Is there fuel in your crankcase?

Went to dealer and was hard starting, checked fuel system pressure all over place . dropped fuel filter ,checked fuel filter looked good and filter only had 50 miles on it. installed new o ring on filter and truck would not start. mechanic decided to change filter again and truck started right up??? dealer said everything looked good ,very confused .a couple days later taking longer to start again 4-5 seconds compared to 10 seconds to hit. going back again next week.i will post soon as figure out !

Sounds like the O ring between the filter, probalby is sucking air. Sorry to hear about your problems, let us know what happens

I have a 2003 Silverado... It is doing the same thing... I have recently moved and they use alot of bio diesel here... I have been changing fuel filter alot and assumed that was the problem. Mine, gets slower and slower to start until I change the fuel filter then it is good for at tank of diesel or so then it starts getting slower and slower again. I am reasonable sure that it is not my fuel or filter causing me all the problems.

I have ready on some other boards people are changing the PMD sensor.... Has anyone tried replacing it to fix this problem?

I have the same problem as loganguy except my problem occurs hot or cold. Dealer replaced fuel filter under recall and problems started. I replaced fuel filter and slow starts got better but not fixed. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thank you

yeah same thing happening here. was out of state when it got really bad, took it to dealer and they were quick to change injector pump. seemed ok for about 10 days then started again. changed filter noticed bad o-ring and seemed to be ok for a few days then started doing it again... now have a vibration at 60 - 65 mph under load, not sure if this is all related or not.

I just picked up an 02 with 58,000 miles Friday and had it towed back to the shop yesterday due to the same problem. I tried changing the fuel filter prior to this with no luck. The dealer said there was air in the system. They bled the system and it seems to be fixed for now but we'll see.

I found that the bleed valve was seeping fuel after being
primed, replaced O ring on bleed screw and my truck starts like it`s supposed to. Was hard to start because it
was pulling air at the bleed screw.

If you have a minute to read my thread-

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=69177

Injectors have seemed to solve my problem but I had to park the truck in the dealer's lot hot and demonstrate that it would not start. Then I used the data I had logged to show the dealer that actual did not follow command and bad balance rates when ramping to 160 mpa WHEN WARM.

I discussed with the mechanic my belief that a new pump could not help because as long as there was "somewhere" for the pressure to bleed to, no pump, even a new one would be able to start the truck due partially to the suction design of the fuel supply system. The starting fluid demonstrated that it would start when the mist of fluid went off and then there was enough RPMs at idle to REALLY spin the pump and make things work. The agreed.

I'm not sure if bad balance rates when ramping to 160 is accepted as evidence by some shops, it was enough for my dealer to replace the injectors and the truck is starting fine now.

Well the shop just called me and said they are replacing the injectors. Hopefully that will solve the problem but it will be the middle of next week before I know. I'll keep everyone updated.

Rather than fool around with the truck, my wife told me to get the _____ (blank) out of it. We didn't want to be stuck with GM's problem. Plus it made me plain angry.

LBZ is awesome. Guess what? I put Stanadyne in it. Always from the get go.

I've noticed a vibration @ about 60 - 65 mph or roughly 2000 rpm under a load haven't notice it before the starting problem though. changed u joints since they are original, no change. If i let off the throttle when it's vibrating, it will stop and i can get back on the throttle and it seems ok. Seems to get worse the longer i drive. Anyone experience anything like this with the "no start when hot" problem?

I’ve been having the same problems - starts fine when cold but after driving it around it has some problems.
I also have some diesel in the oil - did the smell test and the drop of oil on a paper towel, and got the ring affect.
so it went to the dealer this morning and hopefully Ill know something this afternoon.

Still haveing the same long start time. Dealer replaced injector pump for the second time, said injectors were fine... They also hinted that fuel filter housing might be leaking air... truck seems to do a little better after injector pump replacement, but the day after i got it back it's showing signs of long start times. I'm ofcourse suspecting injectors, because that seems to be the final fix for this type of problem The question I have this time is this, if the housing was leaking air, and resulting in longer start times when warm, shouldn't that same air still be in the system when I try to start it in the morning? also, when i loosen the bleede screw, it sounds like I'm breaking a vaccum seal, not sure how that would happen if it were leaking air? Am I thinking about this filter housing right? i'm seriously thinking about dumping this rig off already seeing as how i'm approaching the magical 200,000 mile mark where injectors become my cost.

I got stranded in Elk Grove, CA tonight because my truck would not re-start after having gotten off the freeway to fuel up. I had to wait for the truck to cool down and someone to jump me because I was trying some stuff with EFI Live to get it started. Looks like I will be taking it to the dealer this week to get something fixed!

I also have a 2003 crew cab dually that was having a hard time starting. The dealler had my truck for a week just trying to find the problem. It turned out to be bad injectors. The truck had 75000 miles on it so it was still under factory warrenty. I was told the first generation duramax had bad injector and that the new ones should not do that again.

I have the 2003 Duramax that was hard to start. The dealer final found 2 injector that were leaking off when the engine was warm. They are going to replace all of the injectors. HAPPY DAYS.... I do have one question. The 8th digit of the serial number is a 1 does that mean that I have the extended injector coverage or not? Thanks...
