: The time has come for me to buy exhaust, and i am very confused...
Ltrain 03-31-2004, 10:08 PM It has come the time for me to buy an exhaust for my 2004 CC 3500 GMC. I do allot of towing with the vehicle. I want to go with a stainless system and one that has a nice sound, not too loud, but enough to make the drive make me smile more. Please give personal thoughts and opinions..
Thanks Ltrain!!!!!!!
Trippin 03-31-2004, 10:12 PM There are lots of good systems out there. I bought the Banks and am very happy with it. Just throaty enough for me without annoying the wife. I did the install in my driveway in about 3 hours working at a laid back pace. You can see pictures of it by clicking on the link in my sig. Hope this helps!
Los Lobos 04-01-2004, 12:03 AM I installed a DPP dual a week ago. My mileage went to heck, this is only due to the fact I now can't keep my foot off the floor. Install was definately not for the mechanically challenged, none of the hangers lined up correctly as well as a few other challenges like mis-alignment with the downpipe and brake line rerouting. Looks and sounds great yet it is quiet when you drive normal(if there is such a thing). Overall I am satisfied with the product in the first week.
SILVER04 04-01-2004, 01:07 AM I just installed the Banks turbo back and really like the sound, not too loud and very easy to install with out any problems, the EGT`s are down 150 to 200.
DURAMAXED03 04-01-2004, 08:28 AM Went with bully dog stainless steel. Really bellows at 1900-2100! At max rpm has a real nice combustion sound that's hard to explain. But do have quite a few people turn there heads when I get on ithttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif!
Bodysurfer 04-01-2004, 10:59 AM Ahhhhh, I say....... BANKS !!!
DSTRBD 04-01-2004, 11:17 AM Ltrain- Check out the material used in each system. Depending on where you live, this may make a big difference.
Scotty Seelen 04-01-2004, 11:20 AM No question in my mind. BANKS all the way.
Got Juice? 04-01-2004, 11:25 AM Salt belt area...... had to be SSteel
Banks for me
I never put one on mine but I like the idea of Kennedy's 5" full tailpipe.
Texas Red Wagon 04-01-2004, 11:32 AM Bassani is a nice system. Little pricey
6" Tip looks great on a 3500.

Magnaflow 304 SS. Absolutely spot on hanger placement (idiot proof) for a trouble free installation. Little louder than stock at idle...to my ear...but pleasing. Nice rumble on accelerating...quiet at cruise on highway. Wife has'nt said a word so we know it passes the test.
I agonized over which system...glad I chose Magnaflow. Excellent price, quick service from a small dealer in Oregon.

BRUCE 04-01-2004, 08:07 PM Banks..............very easy install, [of course I do have a lift] 30 mins tops. Great sound when pushed, almost factory when cruising. Edited by: BRUCE
BlueOx03 04-01-2004, 08:13 PM The Summit system is still working for me...
flhrciblueice 04-01-2004, 08:47 PM Ltrain, I was about to post a poll myself when I saw this one. I did not vote as I am shopping around as well. I have narrowed my options down to Banks, Kennedy, Hog, TTS, and Magnaflow. I want something that has a nice deep rumble, but no drone when towing. I ruled out some of the ones you listed because I have heard that they were loud. Has anyone heard the TTS or HOG systems? I ask because there was no mention of them.
Diesel Power 04-02-2004, 01:05 AM i have heard the TTS in a 2004 LB7 and a 2004 LLY. it was the quietest of any aftermarket one i've heard. i didn't realize how loud my truck was (which i thought was pretty quiet) until i drove them. fortunately for me i don't mind loud noise http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif
Terrain Twister 04-02-2004, 12:31 PM What's the warranty on the TTS and does anyone know if it has the dreaded drone?

Nick, I don't mind a loud exhaust either. But, sometimes my 18 month old daughter is asleep in the backseat and I would prefer not waking her up. Also, I work swingshift and don't want to wake her when I am leaving the house for the midnight shift. If not for my little angel, I would probably just straight pipe it. A little rumble is fine. I just don't want it roariing.
Matador 04-03-2004, 10:31 PM Does anybody know how much different the EGTs would be between a full 4" system versus the stock system with just an aftermarket free-flow muffler? What about sound?
BTW, I'm running the Juice/Attitude and I tow frequently.
ghettosled 04-03-2004, 11:11 PM For $299 the Summit Racing 4" mandrel bent system is a no brainer. A bit on the loud side, but you could add a second muffler and still be under $400 for a full "turbo" back exhaust. Truthfully I didnt notice much of a performance difference, but maybe slighltly less EGTs going up hill. Stainless is nice, but depending on your climate you may or may not need it. Aluminized works fine out west :-) If I needed rust protection i would have the entire exhaust ceramic coated to a chrome finish for around $100.
Terrain Twister 04-05-2004, 03:23 PM Hi guys,
wrote an email to TTS on there system and this is there response for those that are interested.
Hi there,
A few questions for you on your Duramax Exhaust,
1. What is the warranty on your system?
5 years, parts only
2. What type of stainless do you use?
400 series
3. is the muffler made by you, for you or other?
Made for us by Donaldson
4. Can the muffler be purchased separately?
We do not sell it as a separate piece as it will not fit without our pipes.
5. What are the physical dimensions of your muffler?
The case is roughly 42 " in length
6. Can band clamps be swapped instead of the standard muffler clamps?
You could use band clamps but you would also need to use the clamps supplies as the hangers attach to them.
7. Does this system start at the back of the Turbo or the 'V-clamp' after the downpipe?
We make two different systems. One starts at the 4 bolt flange by the rear of the transmission and the other starts at the v clamp near the front of the transmission.
8. Does or has anyone reported any type of exhaust drone?
We have no drone, period. Since I see you are in Garden Grove and were just west on the 91 fwy. You could come by and see and listen to our truck equipped with the exhaust.
What I'm finding is that exhaust drone and noise are in direct relation to the muffler size more than anything. I also find it interesting that Donaldson makes the muffler for them. In another post TWINSCREW wrote that the Donaldson #M085171. 8.5" OD with a 35" body fit the bill for him. Maybe Donaldson should make a complete exhaust system so we can cut out the middle man. Just my $.02.
Mark Craig 04-06-2004, 11:12 AM Morning Duramax Owners,
I think something has been missed concerning exhaust systems, MBRP!!! We have been selling their product since 2001 and it is by far (hey were biased, what did you expect!!) the easiest to install, best quality and available in aluminized, T-409 and T-304 stainless steel. That way the customer can select the material that is right for their term of ownership as well as based on the enviroment where they live. We have systems set up as cat back, as well as front pipe back, in single and duals in either type of stainless too! Welded hagers where possible on all stainless systems, and our T-409 system includes a T-304 muffler and T-304 welded hangers to make sure you never have a warranty failure!!!!! Just thought you would want to know there's somebody out here that wasn't listed originally.
Mark @ DPPI
Kennedy 04-06-2004, 11:43 AM I think DPP is yours Mark...
Trader Jack 04-06-2004, 08:50 PM Ya know . . . when people want to buy an exhaust system, they are buying "sound" more than anything else (yes performance too). If I made exhaust systems I'd let them hear it so they could decide.
I happen to like loud . . . but everyone is not the same.
Mark Craig 04-07-2004, 10:29 AM Kennedy,
Your right but I wanted the folks to know that our systems are MBRP systems as they might not know it and wouldn't vote for DPP without knowing it etc. Just an FYI!
Mark @ DPPI
grasshopper 04-07-2004, 12:40 PM MBRP all the way, they are a sweet looking and sounding system. great quality!!!!!
