: Fatback and Baggers
Cowracer 03-15-2006, 02:06 PM I recently picked up a new motorcycle. A H-D Road King Custom. While parked next to my truck, my neighbor remarked that with the fenders on the dually, and the saddlebags on the RK, that I must really like vehicles with 'hips'.
So anyone else have what it take to join the "Fatbacks and Baggers" Club? You must have both of the following.
#1 a DRW pickup truck
#2 a Touring motorcycle. HD, Goldwing, Venture, BMW, it dont matter, as long as its a 'bagger'
Tim.
milt50 03-15-2006, 09:24 PM proud owner of 04 Lava red Road King classic and 06 red LLY/ALLY dually. Been riding harleys 31 yrs.Only my 2nd dually& 1st diesel. Above 30 degrees I'll still ride!:D
FLSTFI Dave 03-16-2006, 06:36 AM Does a 03 Fatboy with leather covered hard bags count? Sure looks like it has big hips!
Once the 03 Fatboy is paid for I will add a Street glide to the stable. Just waiting for the 6 speed cruise drive to be available in the touring line. Keeping the Fatboy.
The 06 Crew Cab dooley I have on order will be my 5th crew cab dooley, all GM's
Cowracer 03-16-2006, 08:53 AM Yeah, the fatboy is a bagger!
You can get a 6 speed core for the stock tranny for a couple of grand installed. I looked hard a the fatty and a Softail Heratige Classic, but my old boss (and still a good freind) always told me that if I bought a Harley and didn't get an FLH that he would have to kill me.
I looked real hard at the RK standard, but the wife has real short legs, and they wouldnt fit around the saddlebag bars. The classic is a little too classic for my taste, but the custom was sharp-sharp-sharpity-sharp!

FLSTFI Dave 03-16-2006, 02:30 PM Had the RK custom been out when I bought my Fatboy that may have been what I got.
I love the Fatboy, and will always own it. My avitar is the paint job on the bike. It is also a 95" with a S&S gear drive 570 lift cam, 10 to 1 pistons, Vance and Hines bigshot longs and a race tuner. She puts out 99.5 pound feet of torque on the dyno. It is an 03 and I have 23,000 miles on it.
In a year or two I will be getting either a Ultra or the street glide to go with the fatboy. I want the factory 6 speed, then will build it to a 103" motor.
66flh 03-16-2006, 02:35 PM You guys know anybody lookin' for a bike?I got an 04 Heritage classic w/7500 mi. and a bunch of goodies on it.$16500.00
partsguy662 03-16-2006, 02:41 PM Sure Tim...I send you my best material...but since my cruiser doesn't have bags and I only have a 3/4 ton truck, I can't be in the group..:(
Here's my entries. Couple shots from a road trip back in '03. It's a 2001 Road King. :)
And a great ad for Corona. IMO

What!?! No Lime?!?

drhutch 03-17-2006, 10:43 AM Just read in the Techline article in the April American Iron Magazine that the new factory 6 speed isn't an overdrive transmission, the final ratio is 1:1. They achieve the od with a different ratio primary, could have done that with the old 5 speed. My custom has a RevTech 6 speed, I love the od top gear but around town I am constantly shifting due to the closeness of the gears, somewhat of a PITA.
I know the bar hopper doesn't qualify as a bagger :( so I can't join the club yet but I feel a gezzeer glide is in my future.

Hey DR...
I thought all harley trannies top out at about a 3.5:1 ratio. IIRC, none get even close to 1:1, much less overdriven.

Nope, your Fatboy does not have bags. Mine has the 100 year anniversy hard leather side bags on it.
By the way nice looking Fatboy. Mines an 03 also, have the black and silver tins in a box in the basement, only 50 miles on them.
rolloffhill 03-22-2006, 10:50 AM Oh well, I would like the storage space with bags, but they just don't fit the look of the bike for me.
Maybe one day, but not for now.

I agree, the Fatboy looks better with out bags. However I really had no choice. Needed the extra storage as th wife and I take week end trips frequently on it and at least one week long trip a year on it.
F350DRW1 04-16-2006, 08:47 PM I have a Road King. Sweet bike. Also an F350 dually. Buddy of mine just bought a chevy dually, its a Duramax 4 door, the paint is real nice. Blue-Granite, maybe? Real eye catcher.
