One of the newer http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Throw Up.gifD##ge's in my area has them. They look like they are about a 6 inch pipe coming up from the bed on each side. I think it looks STUPID and he's effectively lost about 2 linear feet of cargo space in his bed (6" for the pipe + 1 1/2' to keep the heat from the cargo). They are bright and shiny, so he probably got them from a good manufacturer, but it just seems to be a waste of money and cargo room to me.

But then again, the stacks were on a D##ge and I might be a little biased to my GM's.

I feel the same way with my neighbor. He has 6" stacks for his http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Throw Up.gifDoodge, I kinda thought they were okay before he put them on but know having to listen to that droning noise everyday it just is stupid. I can't wait till I get my new Dmax and then he'll hear what a real truck is supposed to sound like.

Kyle,

I saw your photoshop work on the stacks in the post "show us your trucks". Are those the real thing? How bout some pics of how theyre routed. If still photoshop, nice job on the reflections.Edited by: VFRRider

Kyle03D. Your truck looks good woth stacks in it. I'm wondering if it is just because I like the 45degree stacks better then the turnouts why I don't know about my neighbors. Who knows it his truck do what he wants

Kyle03D

I don't have a way to take a pic of how they are routed, but I have 5in pipe under the truck from the downpipe and then routed up into the bed in the exact center. I have a piece of approx. 6"x4" square tube steel that lays accross the bed in which I welded caps on the end, and a female coupler in the middle and then two 5in pieces of pipe on the ends for the stacks to slide over. The stacks are 6" that reduce to 5" at the bottom and can be adjusted up and down by sliding on the 5in pipe welded to the square tube. This way was easier and cheaper than running all pipe in the bed, if you buy a y pipe it is close to 100 bucks!

OK now I got a question as well. I'm wanting to go to to stacks on my truck as well, however a friend of mine is telling me to be careful doing it because he fears I might loose some of my torque if I go to a 5" outlet. Almost as if I have too much free flow. Can anyone prove this right or wrong? I'd like to go to a 5" outlet off the downpipe to lower EGT's, and then split to dual 4" stacks. I know I'll have to do this inside the box, but that isn't an issue. All I'm concerned about is muffler placement, and then if backpressure affects my power. Any help is great!!

So THAT is what happened to Kyle, he lost his torque w/ the big stacks.

W/ a turbo the less restriction in exhaust the better.

Kyle03D
04-22-2004, 11:43 AM
Yep, its a diesel, less restriction the better, turbo already restricts it.

What happened to Kyle is that I don't have enough money to build me a pullin truck to pull around on a trailor. Oh I wish I could.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif

4 is too small, get some big 6 inchers. Unless your doing turn outs, 6 is too big for those, 5 would be good.Edited by: Kyle03D

OK, so after a pile of info and research I've come up with a plan. I'll go 5" off the downpipe up to a "T" in the center of the box and go dual 4" from there. Then go to a pair of inline mufflers with a set of 4" turn-out tips. I'm told the dual 5" just gets too raspy, and the dual 4" still has a rumble to it, exactly what I'm after.

Now all I have to wait for is the warranty to expire and away we go!

! looked at that, not too pleased with info given about the install and routing of pipes. If they were a little more liberal with this info I'd seriously consider it. Anyone out there using they're system? I'd love to hear from you!

You arent going to get much of a difference in sound from 4" to 5" to 6", they all sound pretty much the same of a Duramax. I wouldnt go with 4" because they look too small, I would personally go with 5" but I have seen Kyles 6's in person and they look good!

Zorganov, if I were you I would put the muffler under the truck between the downpipe and bed, 1 muffler is cheaper than 2, then put your T in and use 2 -4ft or whatever you prefer stacks.

Thanks for the advice Raymond. I was just thinking it would be easier to get the mufflers behind the cab rather than underneath, but I went to have a look and you're right. I'll probably go that setup and save myself some money too!

I like it alot!! I just got my stacks in yesterday. 5" tipouts. I mounted them and she wears them very well!! Now all I have to do is find some place I can pick up the parts to go from turbo through to the back of the cab. Anyone got ideas? Tried banks and Magnaflow but won't return my emails.

Nice pipes White Duramax! I wish you would have came up to the pull in Greenwich the 29th. I wouldve loved to see at least one Duramax pull. Only one powerstroke and the rest was Cummins, Enterprise took the wins pretty much.

I was half thinking about it but I've never been there and didn't know what it was like. What is it about 4 hours over there?

I take what I said back, about not being much different in sound. My truck sounds a lot different now with the 5" stacks, than it did with the 4" strait exhaust. I used a 4 to 5" adapter, 90 degree 5" elbow, to a piece of 5" pipe into the bed, took a peice of 5"x5" square tubing across the bed, capped the ends of it, cut a 5" hole in the bottom, 2 4.5" or so holes in the top. I used 2 4" to 5" adapter for the top, I ending up cutting most of the 4" part off, so they just stuck into the tubing a little bit, the adapters and pipe going down were all welded to the 5x5 tubing. I clamped the stacks to the adapters and they hold great. I plan on getting a piece of diamond plate with two 5.25 holes to put between the front of the bed and my toolbox. The sound is a lot smoother and somewhat deeper than with the 4". Sounds good though and smoked like a freight train at Muncie!!

Whats the cost for a 5 inch set of stacks? I have the other parts, but stacks here are hard to find.

Zorganov
06-14-2004, 11:18 AM
I just picked up a set of 48" tip-outs on ebay for $90 USD plus shipping. I live north of the border from the majority of you so my shipping was quite a bit more. By the time I got them here, it cost me $150 USD. That's a little less than half of what I would have paid locally. You should be able to find stacks at just about any truck (Tractor-Trailor) parts/accessories shop. I don't know if any company that makes stacks for pick-ups so ebay or truck shops are pretty much the only two places to look.

I ordered some parts from http://shop.airflowonline.com, I think the stacks there are $90 USD each if you get really stuck.

Good luck Hired Gun!!!

HG, a set of 5" stacks run around $100 a piece or so. Their are some on ebay usually, cheaper.

Sunny chick, 200+ horse boxes/tuners do wonders! Kyle has a 215 Quad tuner and a tst powermax comp.

More fuel. Injector nozzles are modified. Seems to be lightened up at the end of the track below, it was much darker as I was accelerating the sled. Maybe I am running out, but also my rpms were decreased as the sled had put the stoppin on me.

I will probably mount mine just high enough to for the tip-out to clear the roll bar.
