: Banks and EGT Question
mossmissle 03-14-2006, 01:16 PM I just ordered the Banks 6 gun and PDA, Ram Air Kit and Monster exhaust for my '05 duramax. Does anyone have any input on this setup? I am going to attempt the install this weekend.
My first question is: I am going to attempt the "Hoot Method"....does anyone know any reason why NOT to use this method. I am very nervoius about doing this but everyone I talk to says it works great. Has anyone heard of any problems with this method?
Second Question: Does anyone have any tips on installing the rest of the Kit or any recommendations?
Thanks,
Steve
You'll do fine installing any probes if you go slowly and follow the directions in the forum (Hoots method). I don't have experience with your specific setup so my only advice would be to take it one project at a time since it's gonna be like Christmas at your place :D . I'd do it in this order of projects:
1. Exhaust
2. Intake
3. Six gun then PDA
Enjoy!

everything is easy to install in your driveway with normal hand tools.
The EGT probe has only one bit of advice.."take your time".
briano 03-14-2006, 01:38 PM btw, please post in ONE section in the future and not 3 or 4.. thx
mossmissle 03-14-2006, 01:53 PM Sorry, just trying to get some quick answer before I do this install. I was unaware that you could only post to one section at a time.
Yep, Allison is built for tanks...but you didn't get the tank tranny, did you?
You're "safe", that being a variable term, to about 90 hp over stock...then you need to talk tanks.
Dave01PSD 03-14-2006, 04:09 PM I have the six fun w/speedloader on my 05. If you are worried about drilling the manifold with it on the truck then just take it off. I took mine off because it seemed like it was going to be more of a pain to drill it on the truck than it would to just take the manifold off. This way you never have to worry about "well i hope no metal shavings went through the turbo" when you go to bed at night. Its easy.
One lesson I did learn from my install was....only tap it deep enough to thread in the adapter so it goes in just enough to see it on the inside of the manifiold. If you tap it so it screws in all the way, the pyro probe will be almost touching the other side of the manifold. If you decide to do the hoot method then just find about 1/4" depth on the adapter and tap it so you can screw it in that far and it should be ok. I pretty much screwed up by tapping it all the way and now my pyro probe will probably have a short life.
Good Luck
Dave

Thanks dave.....how long did it take you to take off the manifold? Also I thought the manifold was fairly thin. Would 1/4 be to much?
Scotty Seelen 03-14-2006, 04:46 PM Like mad said, I'd do the exhaust, intake and then the Six-Gun. These all come with fairly detailed directions so you shouldn't have a problem. Oh, and start off on power level 2.
Dave01PSD 03-15-2006, 10:08 PM Moss, id say 1/8" is close to accurate. I dont know the exact thickness. It probably took me 2 hours total to remove and replace the manifold. That includes the inner fender and all. Taking my time and doing it by myself. The hardest part was getting the 3 bolts started back into the manifold. They are the three that connect the piece of pipe heading up to the turbo to the manifold. If you have help it will be easier. Having someone with a little leverage to wiggle it back and forth while you turn the bolt to get it started would help a lot. But it can be done by yourself with a little extra patience. Its really not hard to do so. Then when you tell all of the people that are so scared to even hold a wrench near a new vehicle that you took the exhaust manifold off of your truck they will think you are a god. Go for it. Doesnt take much and you will be happy you did it that way in the end.
I was qouted 4 hours @ $80 an hour to do the install. I wasnt about to pay that so I did it myself and enjoyed it.

Scotty Seelen 03-16-2006, 11:08 AM My dealer installed mine for $140.
mossmissle 03-16-2006, 04:55 PM I am going to attempt the "Hoot Method" tonight. If I am not here on monday, then means somthing went wrong!
Do a search----I have never seen or heard of anyone wrecking anything from doing the hoot method. Just work slow. It will be fine.
How did it work out for ya? I did the install in about 8 hours taking the manifold off and welding the exhust at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions.
I did have a a machinist tap the manifold for me. I think the six gun make the truck more effiecient and increases engine life in the process.

mossmissle 03-23-2006, 04:59 PM The hole install took about 5 hours for the six gun, PDA, Exhaust, Ram Air and probe. This was the easest install I have ever done. Thanks Hoot!!!

What is a 1093?
jiggs420 03-30-2006, 05:16 PM it is the engine code for low fuel rail pressure.
TandC 03-31-2006, 04:45 PM What is a 1093?
When was the last time you change your fuel Filter, If recently, and Fueling at 150% or less the HP pump is weak.
