I was reading a review on the duramax engine, and it said "The Duramax was designed for a 200,000-mile operating life, according to GM engineers, and for easy serviceability"
So basically anything after that is fair game, and not really expected to happen or what? Maybe i read it wrong, but thats how it comes acorss to me...granted 200k is alot, but id like to know that i should have no real issues w/the truck at the mark and well beyond.
My dads old 93 p-stroker has 387K on engine, just had to put in one valve 2 months ago. Other than that, and 2 trannys(driver error/stupidy sole cause....tried going from 1->R &back too fast too many times and melt the plates together, 5 months after getting it freshly rebuilt....yikes...) Anyways almost everyone ive talked w/on the fords (7.3 at least) say your good for 500k....i sure hope i read the d-max review wrong...
sorry for rambling...-Adam

That is a rating given where like 90% go without major repairs. It's similar and realistic to other brands.

Hoot's right. Everything I have read says something like "at least 200,000 without major repairs." I think that means they should go that far before most of them start to have problems, not that they all fall apart at 200,000. With some of its features, like the hardened cylinder walls that I get so hung-up on, I don't think it should have any shorter life than its competition. I'm having a hard time deciding which one of the 3 kinds I think is best.

You need to find out if its a B50 rating or B10 rating. B10 means that only 10% of the engines will need overhaul at that mileage, and B50 means half the engines will need to be overhauled. Without the rating the number doesn't mean alot.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif Dave

Polarbear--- I'm like you, I can't wait to get a diesel, but I just don't know what kind its gonna be, yet.

I would think that 200,000 number would be what they are shooting for when only 10% of them will have to be overhauled. But, I don't know for sure. I believe 200-250,000 for 10% to be overhauled is right in line with the powerstroke and cummins engines.
