I'm new in the Diesel place and was wondering if anyone knew where to get the new 06' camper mirrors other than the dealer and what the part numbers are
Thanks, Ryan

Get them from P&G Chevrolet (81848 Smith Twp. State Rd. Slovan, PA 15078
WWW.Partszoneonline.com (http://www.Partszoneonline.com)), or Flow Chevrolet, (FLOW CHEVROLET, LLC 1400 S STRATFORD RD, WINSTON-SALEM, NC. WWW.gmpartsdirect.com (http://www.gmpartsdirect.com)) Ordered them on thursday via the website, had an e-mail notice on friday from FedEx with a tracking number and low and behold up here to Canada by monday afternoon! Oh, the part numbers are:15860540 and 15860541. $164.54 ea and $75.00 for shipping from Partszone and the the cost is $159.76 plus about $40.00 each for shipping from GMPartsDirect. Being here in Canada, I went with P&G because they ship world wide and GMDirect only (at this time, they say), to the lower 48 states.
Cheers!

I ordered them on Feb 15 and received them on March 13... worth the wait though. They were a "special order" and came from a dealer, not sure if that's the norm, but I'm just happy to have them

I ordered mine from gmpartsdirect on Feb. 27 and received them Mar. 13. They were $143.08 each, and $68.68 shipping for both....total cost $354.84. The part numbers listed earlier in this thread were correct.

mark2257
03-16-2006, 11:06 AM
The ones I ordered were 159.76 each

p/n 15839182
p/n 15839183

It was odd, I entered a p/n and ordered it, a different one came up, so I went back and entered that number and a different one came up, so I went back and entered that one and the original one came up. SO... I think there are three valid part numbers for each mirror. I got what I wanted, but I was a bit concerned.

Took me a little over an hour for the first mirror ( I couldn't figure out how to get the door panel off) the second mirror took about 20 minutes.

Quick question on 06 tow mirrors. I have been looking at trucks and see the tow mirrors are electric adjust but manual extend. When changing from short mirrors on a 06 to tow mirrors, is the adjuster and turn signal "plug and play"???

dozerboy
03-16-2006, 10:57 PM
Yes, but my understanding is that you have to have 2 thinks reprogrammed so the seat memory doesn't move your mirror weird places.

Just for your info Gmpartsdirect has finally added pics to the part numbers of these mirrors. Mow you can see what your getting for sure!

I find the need to re-program a bit strange. But anyway, I'm looking at a new 06 without power seats. I take it that the program thing is a non-issue then?
The truck I'm looking at has the small mirrors with power adjust, heat and signals. All I need to know is that the 06 towing mirrors are plug and play..

I've got an 05 and have trouble seeing around my Weekend Warrior trailer.

Miss the old Excursion mirrors. Don't really care about the power extend feature so much. I'm either towing or not. . . no big deal to get out to extend the pass. one or have the Wife push it out.

So, will the newer style mirrors suit me? Do they go out further?

I like having the convex part so, another feature I miss.

Do the new ones 06 style - have the turn signals?

Anyone have instructions on how to remove the door panel to do the job?

Thanks.

Door panel does not need to come off. There is a small triangle panel that just pops off when you pull on it.
Just ordered the camper mirrors from P&G www.partszoneonline.com. The initial price is more ($164.54ea), but shipping is under $15 to Ohio from Pittsburgh. GM parts direct was $143.08ea, but S&H was $34.34 per mirror and they don't answer e-mail.
Now, I hope the mirrors are plug and play when I swap out on an 06 with power adjust, heat and turn signal. I never did get a clear answer on that question.

Oredred mine from P & G as well. Great customer service, they actually called and email me to tell me they could save me money by using a different method of shipping. I was amazed. Great people to say the least. You can actually call and talk to them if you have questions. Tracking shows mirrors should be here on Friday!!!! I feel like a kid at Christmas.

Where's the electrical connector separate? In the mirror or in the door panel? That sure sounds like the installation will be easier.

May have to order them up.

SD Chris

I assumed it would be in the door. The connector shown in all the pictures I have seen are long, making the connector in the door??? Again, my assumption.

mnoutlaw, please let us know.
Could you answer a few questions for me.
1. What year is your truck?
2. What mirrors are you replacing?
3. Do the door panels need to come off?
4. Is the electrical connector attched in the door somewhere or hanging free?

Thanks. I am planning on changing my mirrors this Saturday.

I retract the earlier post where I stated that the small triangle panel is all that has to come off. We just got back from picking up our new 06. I popped the triangle and saw that the wire harness goes under the door panel. Gonna be tougher than I thought.
Like someone stated earlier, we need an expert to tell us how the door panel comes off without damage.
Thanks,

my truck is an 05 chev. took me about a 1/2 to do the first mirror and 15 minutes on the second one. I had the power extending camper mirrors. The door panel needs to come off. the wire connectors are about half way down the door. Panel comes off easy. On my truck I pulled the trim around the door handle and removed the 7mm screw there. Removed the sliding door lock and removed the screw behind that. The lock just pops out. Then I had a plug about halfway down and each side of the door. One has a torque screw behind it and the other is just one of the push through type. After all of the screws are out I just grab the door handle and pull up and the panel comes off. Just unplug the old mirror and plug the new one in and push the fastners in the proper holes and reassemble. They work great for me.

just for those of you wondering, I was complaining to my dealer multiple times about the glass shaking and the power extend not working sometimes. The last time a took it there, they offered (under warranty) to replace my existing mirrors with the production 06 mirrors, manual extend tow mirrors and they did it all at no cost to me
I love them, anyone wanting to get the new ones might try that before buying them

Installed my mirrors today. WOW! What a difference. Thanks to all who posted pictures and info for the removal of the door panels. I just have one thing to add, on my 03 there is a screw that holds the control console from underneath. The screw hold the top or small edge closest to the dash. Again, 03 was plug and play. Hopefully the Curb View Assist will work with the 07's. When I used the Curb View Assist with the New 06 mirrors, the mirrors actually move, they just do not come back when the truck goes into drive, seems like that would have been an easy thing to do. Oh well, I am very happy, they will take some getting used too, you can SEE so much more.

Hi All,

I got the new mirrors today from gmpartsdirect.com, part numbers 15860540 and 15860541. They're for my parent's truck which is in NM right now, but will be here in a few days. They have CIPA mirrors right now ( http://www.cipausa.com/CustomerService%20Files/2004%20Extendable%20Replacement.pdf Wanna buy 'em?), so the original mirrors are sitting in my garage.

Comparing the wiring on the original mirrors and the new ones I note that the connectors are the same, but the number of wires leading to each connector is very different. The new mirrors have several fewer wires. Has anyone else noticed this? The truck is a 2004 LT with heated, power, turn-signal, non-extending mirrors. Have others installed the 15860540 and 15860541 mirrors on an '04 LT without wiring difficulties?

Thanks,
John

Same on my 03. I believe the difference is no Curb View Assist, no Light under mirror, no Auto-dimming feature and no Power folding. Hopefully all these features will be added to future mirrors.

What are you using, if anything, to lubricate the sliding arms?

I hope you're right. It seems logical that you would be, because nobody else seems to have had any problems. On the other hand the old left mirror (which doesn't have a puddle light BTW) has 15 wires (9 on black connector and 6 on blue) and the new left mirror has only 7 wires (4 on black conn, 3 on blue), less than half as many.

Truck will be here in a couple of days, so if nobdy else has payed attention to the wire counts I guess I'll find out for sure then.

Okay, everything worked out fine. The '06 mirrors are on the '04 truck with no problems!

Even though the new mirrors have far fewer wires than the old, all the controls and adjustments work perfectly, even memory and curb assist (haven't tried defrost, it's march in AZ and 80º+).

They look great too and we can see around the trailer!

Hey Chris,

I'm absolutely no expert, but mine were sticking a bit and I fixed it by occasionally doing the following: Extend the arms, clean off any debris (pollen, water, etc) off of the sliders. Spray with Permatex Silicone Spray Lubricant (Part Number 116DA, Item Number 80070). The bearing surface is apparently the very top and very bottom curved surfaces...the "flats" apparently do not bear.

Also, I fold my mirrors while parking in a public place (on-street parking, parking lots, etc), just to keep pimpley-faced pukes and greenie-weenies from breaking or messing with my mirrors. My hinges got a little hard to turn, so I sprayed the mating surfaces (there are two) with the Permatex Silicone Spray Lubricant. Magic, my friend, just flippin' magic.

Hope this helps.

Steve

There are two plugs on the camper/tow mirrors. The plug recepticals in the door should be marked as to which color plug to put where. When both plugs are plugged in on both doors, all functions should work. At least it was that way with my 06.

If you've tried tuning off curb assist and that didn't work; are you sure it's when you go into reverse, or perhaps when you unlock the truck or put your key in the ignition? On the '04 truck we put the '06 mirrors on, we had to disable the automatic seat and mirror adjustment when unlocking or putting the key in the ignition. Otherwise the mirrors would adjust up or down and all the way out.

Curb assist and automatic adjustment had to be turned off. They would move the mirrors to strange locations and not return. At least that's what my father said, I still haven't had a chance to see the truck and play around with them myself.

I am going to install the '06 camper mirrors om my '02, the conn. on the new mirrors do not match up to my current ones. Does anyone have part #'s for the new ones to match up to my '02's. Any part # for my '02 and the '06 connectors? Thanks

Hey ZL-1,

Why not just use the connectors off your old mirrors? You could either pull the pins from the connectors on the new mirrors and slip them into the old connectors, if they're the same style pins (they're just held in by a barb that you can release with a paper clip or similar), or you could cut and solder the wires and seal everything up with shrink tubing.

JRM, I reused the plastic connector by taking off the two grey clips. The terminals will not match up. To all concerned, I can't remember the persons thread I read to add the mirrors on a '02. The GM # for the terminals is 12047767, some dealers will give you some, some might charge you $4.12 a piece. The crimper is P/N 12085271, Packard brand, using die # C, with the terminal turned into the bottom of the crimper, rather than into the open part of the crimper. Use with tender care to crimp. Connection made in the triangle part of top of door, will tie turn signals together when I pull door panel off later. Better shut up for now. Thanks for all the help...

What's the difference between the following part numbers:

15812279
15812280

15860540
15860541

The second set shows the turn signal in glass. Is it that they aren't heated? '40 & '41 replaced 15839182 & 15839183, which according to GMPartsDirect, '82 & '83 have all teh same features of '79 & '80 (Although the replacement numbers do not have the same description). Any ideas?

I got the PN 15860540-41 mirrors for my truck, they have mirror assist, turn signals and are heated. My old mirrors just had mirror assist , and were heated. The turn signals work as well on my truck with these new mirrors.

ated, but with the new mirrors the signals work also .

Okay guys, in case anyone is still checking, I have a question.
P&G or GMpartsdirect?

P&G has good feedback here but they're $20 more per mirror.

GM is $20 less per mirror but has all the "can't return for any problem" notes on the web site.

Which company would you go with? I'm ready to lay down the cash but $40 is $40 and is signifigant.
Thanks!

P&G charged me $17.00 for shipping for both mirrors....GMpartsdirect were $35 ea or $70 for the pair...just do the math...

Just got back from towing the 5er with the new mirrors installed. WOW, what a difference. I can see past the trailer and with the lower mirrors I can see the trailer tires as I'm making the turns. Well worth the money.

I agree WestsideCougar, they are by far the best mirrors I have ever towed with. My wife made fun of them, my son even made a comment "the carwash is going to charge you a extra $5.00 to wash the truck with those mirrors", but I tell you I have a lot better piece of mind with those on there...

P&G shipped to Ohio for $15. I talked to PartsDirect about taping the boxes together and giving me a break on shipping. Parts guy there said "no way, thats how we make money." P&G treated me right and the total price was way less.

They are great mirrors for towing. My wife thinks the truck should be named Ross Perot due to them though ...

Don't know about all the other dealers but this dealer in Del. gave me the same price or close to it that the web site dealers give. No shipping pick up in a day or two. Now I had to ask for the price comparison cause without it their price was way higher. ;)

Well after bothering enough people, and getting some answers as to if these will work on an 03 LT. I Then realized the thread said it all, I ordered a set from local dealer $178.00 each no shipping. 3-5 days but I dread pulling the door panel apart. I did download the ttt schneckler? mirror install door panel instructions they seem the best for removing the panel with good pics

Ordered mine from P&G on the 18th. Called them today just to check status and the nice guy on the other end explained that they had one of my mirrors and were just waiting on the other one before shipping. Seems they've had people order about 30 sets recently. Hmmm, wonder who that could be?
So, anyone ordering from their partzonline site will be delayed for backorder for a few days.

I got mine from P&G.
$349 including shipping.
At my door in 2 days.
Amazing

My local Chevy dealer's parts department is closed on Sat. I could call them to order, but I would have to take off work to pick them up.

I would like to do business locally, but I have to work.

How do you take care of the problem, each time I go into reverse the mirrors move but do not return to there original place in drive.Curb assist is off

I'm still fighting with my mirrors adjusting erratically, too. Disabling Curb View wasn't enough. I've changed so many other settings that i've lost track of where I'm at. Has anyone figured out what exactly to disable so they quit adjusting erratically with the different seat and remote keyless entry settings?

I've ordered a set of the '06 mirrors for my truck. It's an '02 which came with the standard, non-power towing mirrors. Has anyone else adapted these mirrors to this truck set-up? I'm assuming I'll have to go to a junkyard to pick up the 4-way mirror adjusting switch. Is this located on the drivers door armrest in front of the power window switches? If so, I assume I'll just buy the whole armrest and adapt it into my truck. Only other issue is if the wiring is already there or not. If not, I think there is enough information in the posted instructions for installation on an '02 to get me through.

Where is the mirror heat switch normally located? I'm assuming I can just get a rocker switch from Radio Shack for that feature- but is there a timer in the circuit? That would be a little more complicated...

Can only answer as to the heat switch and it works in conjunction with the alreay there rear window defrost heating element switch on my '05.

I mounted the 06 mirrors on my truck and they are great. I noticed a problem with the passenger side mirror. It adjusts in and out but not in enough to see the side of the truck. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Don't think the mirror is going to go in towards the truck any more than what they are capable of , if you force them any more you may just break it.;)

What at night , was his truck locked up, how did the thief get them off. If he took them off the way you put them on you mean to tell me your neighbor didn't hear anything:confused:

I looked at my son's truck and they do adjust in enough to see the side of the truck. This mirror just doesn't move in that far. Does anyone know how to take the mirror off so you can get to the mechanism inside?

I used the www.gmpartsdirect.com pricing as leverage at my local dealer. They were able to reduce their pricing on the set to within $47 of the Gm Parts Direct pricing (with tax). The bonus is that the regular part warranty applies (from what I read, converting to the towing mirror nulls the warranty from the online dealers).
