: Hypertech III Code 7E
rvarner 03-30-2004, 06:30 PM Received a Hypertech III for Christmas and, when I tried to install HP gains, I got a code 7E (computer would not accept the program). Tried several more times and same results. Called Hypertech and they had me send it back for exchange. I tried the new one yesterday and got same 7E code. Hypertech wants me to send them the programmer and my PCM for bench testing. Has anyone else ever had this problem and, if so, what's the fix.
Thanks
Richard
Mackin 03-30-2004, 08:31 PM What year truck ??
If 01 confirm it has all the ECM reflash updates as there was a scan tool comunication problem correction ... Could be ? Dunno but worth a shot ...
You know about the guy in litigation with Hyper Tech over a ECM issue and GM warranty ??
Tell Hyper tech to get their own ECM ...

Thanks for the response. I have a 2002, K2500, CC, LB, D/A mfg date 02/02. No, I haven't heard about the litigation. Where do I go to find out more (ECM same as PCM)?. I have seriously been considering putting the thing on e-bay cause truck runs fine. I wanted to put bigger tires on and also bought a new trailer that was approx 2000# heavier and thought the Hypertech would be just the "ticket" to recal the speedo and give me a little extra HP.

I will be greatly interested in what you find as I'm contemplating getting a Hypertech III for a little more "umph" when pulling the gooseneck. I'm not interested in having "low ET" at a dragstrip somwhere. I'd just like to pull the ol 96HP New Holland 7610 tractor around with no probs. (Plus I don't want to get into the tranny mods that the higher HP programmers seem to desire.) Please keep us updated!
MaxumDuramax 03-31-2004, 11:16 AM Just out of curiosity, my manual told me to pull the On Star fuse from the box under the hood...Just a thought
rvarner 03-31-2004, 07:38 PM Thanks for the replies. I don't have "On-Star" and skipped this section. I unplugged the CB, brake controller and turned everything off including the radio and DRLs. Cstone, I'll let you know. I think I found the ECM. Is it behind a cover attached to the radiator on the drivers side? Do I need to disconnect the batteries?
Richard
Mackin 03-31-2004, 07:47 PM Thats the TCM .... The ECM is also on the drivers side in front of the fuse box ....

low_tech 03-31-2004, 08:03 PM Re read the section on On-star I used a Super-chips programmer and had to pull a total of 4 fuses, two under the hood and two in the cab, the way the manual was laid out it made you think if you didn't have onstar you didn't have to read the section,,, not true, they list a couple of fuses in there that you have to pull.
I have an 02 and used a Superchips programmer and put the 50 HP gain program in, I like it...
I'm waiting to get turbo temp monitoring before going any further.
If you can't find the fuses, let me know I will go look and list them if you like

Thanks for the info. I'll retry this weekend, following the on-star directions.
mac,
Thanks for the links to "warranty" issues. I have also heard of warranties being voided for "handling problems" because of larger tires being used. If you move up a size or two, be sure to keep your original tires just in case.

Trippin 04-01-2004, 12:53 AM To use my Quad tuner I only have to pull the "INFO" fuse under the hood. I do have Onstar. Hope this helps!
rvarner 04-04-2004, 06:12 PM Just tried to reprogram again with the fuses pulled. One under hood and three in fuse box in dash. Still code 7E so guess I'll be sending Hypertech my ECMhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif. Thank you all anyway.

I could be mistaken but after reading the instructions and installing the Hypertech on my truck, I believe the reason they want you to disconnect the On-Star fuse is to prevent On-Star from sending a signal while it's re-flashing your computer. I installed mine without On-Star and without removing any fuses and it worked fine, no codes at all. You probably just got a bad box.

Thanks for the reply. I am on my second programmer. The first one had same results. Will be sending both the programmer and ECM to Hypertech for testing. I don't have "On-Star.
