OK I've talked to several shops and they are all saying that the pyro should be mounted post turbo, reasons they gave were

1. - factory says thats where it should go. ( sounds like a cop out ).

2. - You would only be monitoring one half of EGT temps. ( seems almost reasonable ).

Any thoughts either way ?

Thanks in advance

The whole point of monitering EGT's is to see how hot the gasses are going to the turbo so you can adjust by lifting of the go peddle to avoid damage ....

Measuring after the turbo tells me its to late, damage possibly done .... Post turbo numbers varying as much as 200+ degrees ....

Seems to me, if factory had a recommendation as to where it is supposed to be mounted, they would have actually mounted onehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif But, since they did not, go w/ mac's advice and mount it pre-turbo. You need to know the temps going into the turbo to prevent damage. my .02 DinoMaxhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

And the argument about only monitoring half the engine, ie. only one side of the engine ? think it would differ that much from one side to the other ?

I have as much as a 600 degree difference between my pre turbo and post turbo EGT's. Given the dangers of running too hot, I would put it pre turbo, even if you only get one side.

I would not even bother with mounting it post turbo, that gives you absolutely no usable info what so ever. Pre Turbo or not at all. My .02.
