: 3500 torsion keys?

I am trying to lower my 2004 GMC 3500 4X4 Crew Dually.

I can't find torsion keys for the front. to lower the rear is easy but the front is a pain due to the 4x4.

I am planning on using drop spindle for 2" but want 2" more from the torsions.

Can you use drop spindles on a 4x4? I thought you could only do that on 2x ,try backing out the bolts on the keys you have now see how far that gets you, you might bottom out on the shocks though.

On the GM 4x4`s it is not a good idea to crank the torsion bars down much. You will have more problems with them cranked down then you will with them cranked up. Maybe because there is less room for suspension travel. (IE: the half shafts may come into contact with the A-frame)

You will probably be better off checking with the low rider crowd for the correct information on what you are after.

This company in Fresno Mgaughs (SP?) is coming out with the spindle for the 4x4 1-ton that is a 2" drop.

I should be OK with only 3-4" of total drop in front. I am prepared to make addtional mads to axles or A-arms if need be. I am not going to give up on lowering this thing.

I already guessed I would have to buy new shocks. I just can't believe that none of the lowering manufactures can help. they all just say they don't make a kit and they are not very helpfull.

I just talked to my buddy that does laser & water jet cutting, he thinks he can just cut out of thick steel new keys. The only trick is how much to change them from stock to get the right drop.

anyone have any ideas on that one?

Why are you dropping a 4x4 in the first place? Is it to make it easier to get into?

Or just get a 2WD.

U can only go a little then it will be setting on the bump stops, these could be cut down but i'll bet u get into axle & suspension trouble.

There was a post here about some dually that was lowered and made to look like an Escalade. Looked sweet, but I think this was a 2x4. The 4x4 is going to complicate things, and may require frame notching or some other drastic measures.

2x4's are for lowering, 4x4's are for lifting....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif
