: 18" s or 20"s
datsbad 03-29-2004, 11:21 PM i currently have hummer h2 wheels and tires on the truck . i want to go to a 18" or 20" wheel and tires set up . does anyone have any info on this ?
this is what i know . the bfg 315/70/17 have a diameter of 34.5 and a width of 12.8
now the nitto in a 18" 34.88 and width of 12.99
and the 20" nitto 35.12 and width 12.93
anyone think i will have any troubles fitting these on the truck . i have my bars cranked and nothing rubs . also have my front bumper spaced out 1" . any help . it is about $1,000 difference between the 20" and 18" thanks
datsbad 03-30-2004, 08:53 AM i cant hardly believe that no one knows anything here . all those pics of trucks in the other tread and no one ? wow!!
GMC2500HD 03-30-2004, 09:21 AM That stuff is way to bling bling, Stick with stock it rocks. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif
datsbad I run a 22" rear and 20" up front on my Duramax. No troubles. I will get you tire size info soon.
MB
Do the 20's, We are running the Nitto 305 45 22 in the rear at 32.64" tall. The front in Nitto 255 50 20 at 29.92" tall. These are on a lowered 2WD with no problems. If you are 4 wheel and have the bumper done, I would think you will be no problem.
BMDMAX 03-30-2004, 02:09 PM I am running 18's with no problem. No trimming or cranking of the t-bars.
Wheel and tire specs are in the sig.
datsbad 03-30-2004, 02:16 PM yeah i actually want to use the weld velociti wheels , i just know later i will wish i got the 20" wheels . also BMDMAX, your tire sizes are not close to where i will be in size .
VFRRider 03-30-2004, 05:04 PM The only issue you may run into is load rating. Plenty of sport trucks out there running 18-20's, but not many HD's, that need LT ratings for heavy loads, towing, etc. LT rated offerings in those sizes are not that plentiful..yet. You'll see more and more as the manufacturers react to the market demands.Edited by: VFRRider
CRF250 03-30-2004, 06:11 PM http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/798_MVC-001S.JPG
Professor 03-30-2004, 09:02 PM I prefer the 18's on the HDs to give it more sidewall.
Pick your tires carefully. The bfg is a bit under on the load rating but there are choices in Nitto and Toyo that will put you well over 3000lbs.
Check out this one with 35's on 18's. http://dieselplace.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=6594&PN=6
datsbad 03-31-2004, 08:39 AM CRF250 - i like the looks of your truck , i actually have that pic saved and keep looking at it to compare but your tires are only about 33 in diameter as compared to the hummer tires i have now at 35 . my truck has the bars cranked a little to level it out . is yours cranked ?
i also may lift it later in the future, and i am thinking the 20's would be what i need , but that wont be for a while .
I have a set of Weld Velociti 8's coming. Be sure to post a pic when you get your Welds on.

CRF250 03-31-2004, 10:44 AM Knowing how mine fit, I don't think I could go any taller. I assume you are looking at 325/65/18. They are 1.28 inches taller than mine and mine will rub very slightly on the back of the front wheels wells when turned all the way to lock while backing up. I do have the plastic zip tyed back in every place I could find that might be a problem. Backspacing on the wheels will play a major role also. Welds come in 5.14 or 6.12 inch backspace. 5.14 is not enough with a tire that is 12.79 inches wide. 6.12 maybe a little to much as mine are 6 inch and I do have evidence of the tire touching the sway bar on the passenger side. It didnt even rub the paint off the bar, it only made it shinny and I never felt it.
Yes I have raised my bars about 1.75 inches. By the way these tires are the best I have ever had and I have had just about every kind of A/T tire you can think of.
03GMC2500HD 03-31-2004, 11:34 AM CRF250 you truck looka alot like mine. Sweet looking with the 18's but I wouldn't go larger myself. Bigger looks out of place IMO.
http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/ZZ6_03GMC_1.JPG
03GMC2500HD 03-31-2004, 11:37 AM CRF250, I think I'm going to go have my tires flipped with the white letters in. I think it looks cleaner now that I can compare the two side by side.
RanaExcavating1 03-31-2004, 01:13 PM CRF250
SWEET! Clean with no Bling Bling!
datsbad 03-31-2004, 02:22 PM i was going to use the 5.14 backspace , would these stick out or in . where do your wheels sit ? in , out or flush with the flare ? my h2 wheels are perfect and i am going to try to achive the same thing . and yes i was thinking of the 325/65/18
CRF250 03-31-2004, 06:32 PM http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/CFZ_MVC-003S.JPGIf you go with 5.14 backspace there is no question they will rub badly. The Weld wheel will stick out 1.36 inches farther than the H2 wheels, plus the extra tire width. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/Z4Z_MVC-006S.JPG
DIESEL 5 03-31-2004, 06:45 PM This works for me:
20" 305/50/20 rear
20" 275/55/20 front

Are you 2wd or 4wd? Edited by: GMC2500HD
datsbad 04-01-2004, 12:05 AM crf250 . what backspace are your wheels , who makes them and what is the finish ? and you say that the welds in 5.14 will rub badly . where at ? and which backspace would you buy ? sorry for al the quetions and i greatly appreciate the pics of your truck in helping me with this .
CRF250 04-01-2004, 07:01 PM My backspace is 6 inch. They are Eagle series 114 and they make them in polished, super finish and chrome. I really wanted chrome but did not want to pay for chrome. I like the super finish OK. When posted above I miss read the Weld specs.
With the Weld wheels you have two choices. 18x8.5 5.14 backspace. 18x9.5 6.12 backspace.
18x8.5 5.14 bs will stick out .14 less than my picture but the sidewall of the tire will be balloned pretty bad.
18x9.5 6.12 bs will stick out .12 less than my picture but the extra .12 bs will put the tire closer to the sway bar when the wheels are turned.
The Welds are a better looking wheel but Weld pissed me off in the past and I will never own another set of Weld wheels.
I am happy to help just so someone else does not have to deal with tire people that really dont know what they are talking about.
datsbad 04-01-2004, 11:27 PM i think i will end up with the 18x8.5 and the 5.14 backspace . that should only put them a little more out than my h2 wheels , i think ? and i am going to go with the 325/65/18 nitto . i will post pics when i get them on . thanks for the help !
CRF250 04-02-2004, 11:12 PM datsbad
I look forward to seeing pics. When do you plan to do it?
datsbad 04-02-2004, 11:17 PM should be in a coupe weeks . i want them on for the hot rod weekend in ocean city , md . i will post pics , thanks
one last question . do you think i have choose the right backspace personally? you may email me directly at jasmhuber@earthlink.net

CRF250 04-14-2004, 12:37 AM datsbad
I am here but with the good weather I don't spend alot of time inside at the computer. I will respond to you PM's.
redneck45
You have to change with the times or are you still running 16.5 split rims with bias ply tires. Maybe when your bias plys get thin you can get those new kind of tires that goober at the fillin station was telling me about --- I think he called them radials.
Sorry man just having some fun.
allstok03Dmax 04-15-2004, 05:23 PM If I'm not mistaken you can get the velocity 8's in a XT that is like 4 5/8 or something close to that. It's what I'm gonna run on my truck. 325/65/18 nitto and velociti 8 XT's I'm gonna order them friday.
datsbad 04-15-2004, 05:34 PM yeah you are right but with that backsapce they will be sticking out past your fenders for sure . and you will need a small lift . i have that tire here and it is about 1" taller than 315/70/17 h2 tires. it will be rubbing all the time and you will have to cut your front bumper and space the bumper out 1" or more . if you do it i want to see pics
allstok03Dmax 04-15-2004, 05:41 PM yeah, I'm orderin my lift, wheels, and tire tomorrow so I was told i need to get the XT's so that the backspacing would be right. I'm gonna be runnin 325/65/18 nitto w/ the velociti 8's or maybe Boze fatal 8 wheels
Anyone running the Michelin Pilot LTX's?
Largest size appears to be 285/60R/18XL which is rated:
120H 31.3" OD 2805lbs max load
I never come close to requiring more load than this. Would be mounting on 18" rims. Never off-road, 90% hwy at 70-90 mph.
Any downside to this that I might be missing?
datsbad 04-15-2004, 11:58 PM if the lift you use increases track width then those wheels combined will be out very far from the fenders . i dont mind the look personally but you are gonna have some serious stone chips on that bad boy !!
i do not want a lift , been there done that ! i will be using the smaller 325/60/18 nitto and a 18x9.5 wheel with a 6.00 backspace . should be about the same as the h2 wheels as far as sticking out goes . it will look like CRF250's truck but white
post some pics when you are done !
CRF250 04-16-2004, 03:19 AM Here is the best pic I have that shows how much they stick out. For reference I had 16x8 with 4.5 inch bs and 285/75/16 tires. My new set up sticks out the same amount which is 2 inches.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/31B_MVC-002S.JPG
CRF250 04-16-2004, 03:50 AM datsbad
Just reread you post. the h2 wheels stick out 1.5 inches farther than stock. h2 wheels are 17x8.5 5.5" bs. stock is 16x6.5 5" bs. 2" wider wheel .5" more backspace = 1.5 inches farther than stock. Eagle 18x9.5 6" bs = 3" wider wheel 1" more bs = 2" farther than stock. I think the wheel people make it as hard as possible to figure out but it is really just simple addition and subtraction.
allstok03Dmax,
The XT is not listed on the Weld web site so I do not know the specs. If the wheel is 9.5" wide and only 4.5" bs the wheel will stock out 3.5" farther than factory. If it is 8.5" wide it will stick out 2.5" farther than stock. With a lift 2.5 is probably OK but the tire is to wide for a 8.5" wheel. Toyo recommends a 9" to 10" for the 325/65/18 with 9.5 preferred. For the 325/60/18 they recommend a 9.5" to 10.5" with 9.5 preferred. I assume you want the 4.5 " bs because the lift people say that is the max bs. With a 16" wheel that is true but with the 18" wheel who knows. Make them test fit what you want. The people at 4wheel parts told me my set up would not work. The pimple poppin kids only know what thier boss tells them.
allstok03Dmax 04-16-2004, 07:54 AM I'm gonna call the installer today and talk to him again and see what he says. I just don't want the side of my truck all freakin chiped up. I would be really pissed off. I'll figure somethin out this afternoon.
-Chad-
datsbad 04-16-2004, 07:14 PM ok , i got my whels on today and i am very happy with the fitment . i now know why the eagle wheel is half the cost of the welds . i got the chrome and they are not fully chromed in the nooks and crannys like the weld would be . oh well they still look good . if i knew how to post a pic i would . you guys want to help me out with it ?
crf 250 thanks for the pic , i really dont think they are out any farther than the h2 wheels . i know now they do not rub anymore since the height is a little smaller .
CRF250 04-16-2004, 10:38 PM datsbad
I told you in a previous post that the Welds are better quality but Weld has pissed me off so I will never purchase or recommend a Weld wheel. As far as pics go, I had my pics on a floppy so I just hit the image upload button and it worked. other than that don't ask me as I am a computer retard.
allstok03Dmax,
Do the research yourself. The installer only knows what a chart tells him. Ask the installer why reguardless what he says. If his reply starts with, they say, the head installer said, my uncles brothers cousins sisters brother in-law nows someone that tired a bla bla bla, you get the point. I am a numbers kind of guy but I have not looked at any lifts because I am not interested. The numbers say that you have a extra 1" front, back and both sides. All I can say is test fit.
If I can help just ask. It may take a day or two for me to reply.
allstok03Dmax 04-16-2004, 11:03 PM Well as far as all that goes it doesn't really matter anyways. I order my RCD today so I don't really have to worry about it. Thanks for you help. I"m gonna try to take plenty of pics. so I'll let yall know something soon.
Bertram65 04-18-2004, 10:09 PM CRF250,
Do you know what is the difference between the super finish and the polished, I am looking at the super finish but there is no dealer local so I will be ordering them without seeing the actual wheels. I could not find any info on the Eagle web site. Thanks.
datsbad 04-18-2004, 11:29 PM i think the super finish has painted gray background with polished lips and flat surfaces , and the polished is of course polished and then chrome . the chrome is alot easier to take care of , a wet paper towel will clean them off . my buddies at the tire shop hooked me up at 219.00 each with caps and lugs . sounded good to me . i am not 100% sure about the super finish , you may want to look into it more .
datsbad 04-19-2004, 09:17 AM here is a pic , i will get better ones . http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/7CD_DSC00087.JPG

Looks good. I am glad to see tou didn't try to stuff the 325/65/18 in there. Can you post a better pic of the wheels? I want to compare the chrome to my super finish.
flhrciblueice 04-20-2004, 06:39 AM datsbad, looks good, for a short truck.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif I like the bull bar and was going to get one, but IIRC you have to remove the tow hooks to mount it and I use them occasionallyhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif, so I decided against the bar.
datsbad 04-20-2004, 09:41 AM i am happy and i did notice that it goes around corners a little better , these tires have more of a square design since they are widder also . here is a better pic . http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/48C_DSC00092.JPG

allstok03Dmax 04-20-2004, 09:01 PM well, I ordered my 18x10 velociti 8 XT's. weld is out of the 18/9.5 and are on national back order. It will take as much as 2-3 months to come in. My wheels should be in next week. I order 325/65/18 terra grappler. I will take some pics what I get them on with the lift next friday. can't wait. for those that are going to beach bend look for the lifted pewter CC SB HD. I'll be there.

Looks great, Love the whole set up. Id keep the westin bar? Where did you get it and how much?
Im still trying to figure out how you got away without trimming your from bumper?
I have the exact same tire with my bars turned and had to do same decent trimming.

Notice the trimming on the from bumper. I had no Idea that back spacing made such a difference!!!

datsbad 04-22-2004, 08:46 AM bybycop, i took my complete front bumper off and spaced it out about 1" . it is very hard to tell i even did it . i also trimmed it out but not as much as you . if it was chevy i wouldn't have minded as much since they are gray down there , but with nice factory paint i did not want it messed up much . it is amazing how backsapcing changes eveything , mine rubbs on tight turns on the inside a little .
get them 2500 hd emblems off , i just took mine off and it looks real clean in my opinion. here is another pic i will share http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/F23_DSC00100.JPG

bybycop 04-22-2004, 12:36 PM Dang good lookin truck! How hard was it to move that from bumper forward? How bad would it have rubbed with out moving it? I did also have to trim some of the body and plastic underneath. Where did you get the Brush guard? How much? actually seing a side profide I just realized that it wouldnt fit in my garge if I had one. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif Mybe in my next house.
Have you been happy with the ride since truning the bars?
datsbad 04-22-2004, 05:38 PM not hard at ll . you have to remove the whole grille assembly and there are 3 bolts on each side along with the brackets in the fender wells above the fog lights .
turning the bars was fine for me . i did not have to turn them much and i dont think it rides any worse or better
2K2AD 04-22-2004, 08:15 PM The emblem delete was the first thing I noticed from the first to the second pic. You are right, it is clean and looks great. I do not think the bar ads too much to the front of the truck. Chrome, relatively small. It compliments the clean, minimal look just fine. Great looking truck! If I had a white one, I would want it to look just like yours.
Kevin
datsbad 04-22-2004, 11:36 PM thanks for the compliments . i actually thought of removing the chrome strips also but decided against it .
CRF250 04-23-2004, 02:08 AM http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/E53_111_DSC001011.jpgI almost bought a white one. I could not decide so I let my 7 year old son decide. I know now either would have been a good choice. All emblems except the Duramax Diesel came off the day after I bought it.

datsbad 05-26-2004, 12:22 AM the grille i got from summit racing and i would not recomend it . it is there own brand and the paint between the grille is peeling off . looks like crap now . but it was only like $99
and yes backspace is something like 6 inch or very , very close . maybe like 6.1 something , CFR 250 knows this also
cadent44 05-26-2004, 12:26 AM I bought a "SS" Grill from Chevy and had it painted to match, along with painting the "egg crate" portion flat black.
