I tried this before with my '01 HD, but I only had one other guy (That I knew) with a six speed. Seeing that I'm not so alone with you folks here, I would like to get a count of every manual owner that would be interested in a Hurst shifter for our trucks, if we can talk them into building one. To me, a shorter, more precise shift would make driving the truck even more fun than it already is. I know I installed one in an '88 C1500 that I built for the street, and it was a blast to drive. So, what do you say ZF owners?? Anybody else interested?

Sure, I'd give one a try. Ford uses the ZF as well. Is it possible that the same shifter would work for both?

It's hard to say if the shifter is the same or not. One would presume that it is, but you'd have to have two side by side and take them both apart to verify. It would probably be a plus if they were the same. That many more potential buyers would help our case immensely

I would ONLY consider one if it has adjustable end stops to save my synchros, like the mustang shifters, if it does not, then no, I am not interested, I can shift this thing just as fast as I need to.

No, I am Ferd guy and that is what I heard was said on the BD Forums. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Here is my solid aluminum shifter. It is the same design as stock. If you shortened it an inch or two it would be perfect. The only problem is the stock shifter has a rubber sleeve between the shifter and the slug in the end that is threaded. A lot of trans noise is projected up mine. I put a thick rubber washer then a flat washer on the end with the nut. It helped but the wife still complains.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif One thing for sure, without the rubber sleeve the gears are notchy. I can hit the 1st to 2nd hard now that I can feel the gates.

This is from TDS, a Ferd forum.>

I just received a reply to an email I sent to BD. Supposedly can order in a week but unfortunately he also said they will be $290. http://forums.thedieselstop.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

That alluminum shifter is kick a$s. What is the story on that, how did you make it?

Depending on what they came up with $290 might be pretty reasonable -- I've seen shifter kits for other vehicles that cost twice that.

Thanks for the info.

It was a gov't job.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif A lot of chips were made making this one.
I measured up the stock shifter and added the dimensions for the Hurst T-handle. Had to heat the shifter up with a torch to get the bend. You could do a straight handle easier if the hole in the end could be drilled at a 15 degree angle.

Again from the FERD forum=

Talked to Pat @ BD today. Shifter is in a truck testing as we type :-) It will be there for the rest of the week. If all goes well 2 weeks for production and we should be able to order in 3 to 4 weeks. He will also have a definite price soon.

I will pass it on as I get it.
