: SBC DD slipped today!
nick04duramax 03-09-2006, 12:05 PM Ok I broke in the 550hp clutch kit with no power turned on for 250mi. which is alot of stop and go driving about a weeks worth. I decided to turn on some power yesterday and it ran great considering the roads were wet. I have a superchip on the performance setting and the edge w/***. The clutch held the superchip so I turned up the ***. trying the lower levels first, remember its raining out so its very squirely so I'm not being very hard on it. All went well the clutch held. Today its just a light drizzle so the roads aren't great but they're much better than yesterday so I thought I would test again. I turned the ***. to level 2 in 5th gear and floored it, it started doing well but sounded like it slipped so I let off. I thought no way so I turned it up all the way to know for sure and It definately wasn't pulling like it did yesterday, I guess the slick roads from the day before helped it to break traction instead of slip the clutch. It definately was slipping so what do I do. I know it was installed right, I did one wrong on my old 78 and won't do that again. The directions say to break it in for another 50mi. of regular driving, Is that all it is going to take? Have any of you slipped yours and had to re-break in the clutch.
chevy_9465 03-09-2006, 12:38 PM On here iv always heard your suppose to take it easy for the first couple hundred miles but I know a guy with a dodge who said the company he got his clutch from told him to give it hell from the get go, they told him to do 3rd and 4th gear launches to try and slip it and break it in.
nick04duramax 03-09-2006, 02:56 PM I did go easy on it for 250mi. no power adders or anything, plenty of stop and go driving.
05_LLY 03-09-2006, 03:21 PM mine has never sliped i cant even make it slip its either disengaged or engaged there is no in between and i ran edge on 1 and 2 form mile one and went to ppe a little over 200 miles mabey try getting a hold of peter at sbc he would know the best what to tell you.
Good luck

Got Juice? 03-09-2006, 03:43 PM 3200 Rpm Clutch Drop!
J/K (surfaces glazed?????)
Deadeye 03-09-2006, 03:47 PM put the tuners back to stock level and just drive the truck more stop and go. Each kit needs to break in a little different, and based on the pics of your truck, it is a little different :ro)
nick04duramax 03-10-2006, 12:21 PM This one is in my 02 so that I can trailer the pull truck with some power at the wheels. I have about another 60mi. on it at stock levels so maybe when I hit about 75mi. extra break in I'll try her out again.
05_LLY 03-10-2006, 01:56 PM 3200 Rpm Clutch Drop!

Sometimes a DD can glaze up if you take it too easy on them. I know some of the CTD guys have to do an RPM drop to get it to 'bite again'
Check with Peter First though!
nick04duramax 03-11-2006, 09:38 PM Well no more slipping, thank goodness. Now its time for some more fuel.
05_LLY 03-11-2006, 10:02 PM Good Deal:ro)

What did you do to get the slippage to stop?
nick04duramax 03-13-2006, 12:17 PM I broke it in for another 75mi. or so and let heer have it. I started with the superchip and ran through the gears, felt good so I bumped the edge up to level 2, all good so I went to level 5 and it hasn't slipped since the last time. Egts sure do get high quick, I need bigger exhaust I think.
CLUTCH BUSTER 03-13-2006, 08:20 PM Glad you got it fixed. When we put my Macs SMF and Dual Disc Puller in, just as soon as we saw it would move the truck, we loaded the PPE hot Xcellerator in on highest level, and reved it to 4100 rpm and let her go!
Never slipped excessivly then and doesn't give me any problems now.
Just my $.02
Good Luck!:ro)
