I'm dropping off the the truck tonight for its first maintainence visit. I talked to the service guy on the phone who unfortuantly didn't know that the Trans filter needs to be replaced.

What should an oil change and allision filter change cost? I'm half expecting them to charge me something rediculous like 2 hours labor to change the trans filter expecting that I don't realize its a spin on.

We shall see... :blahblah:

I just paid $148.00 last week for the 1st oil change and
spin on trans filter. That was with a $10.00 discount.
Make sure they put on the magnet on the spin filter.I
told them to save me the filters and sure enough the
magnet was on the old filter.I had to bring it back to have it put on the new.

   $148.00:eek:

The spin on filter is $12.00, IIRC.
A new magnet (in case you want two) is $7.00
Fluid is $6.00

It takes 10 minutes to change...if they charge you more than about $35, you should tell them where to go (I did mine last weekend under 20 minutes and that was taking my time)-:t

He also had the oil changed. $148.00 is still too much money for an engine oil change and trans spin on filter change.

Total is $157.13

Guess I'll be doing it from now on, at least now its in the GM computer that the filter was changed.

Here is the breakdown if you want to laugh.

3K Service
Labor - $19.50
1 Filter - $25.00
10 15W40 $61.30

Thats an expensive Oil Change.

Then..

Diag "Please Check all recommended Items on Diesel at this time. Customer Request and A Recomendation replaced external transmission filter.

Labor $28.50
1 Filter $21.23
5 Fluid $22.40

Then Shop Supplies $2.00
Senior Friday Senior Day -$3.00 (Its Thursday and I'm 29)

Total 157.13

I'm wondering how they got 5 quarts of Transfluid in it if they just changed the spin on filter, I seriously doubt it drains THAT much.

I'll check all the fluids tomorrow, I give a 50/50 that they are where they are supposed to be.

5 FLUID?!!! With a spin on trans filter? At MOST about a pint. I'd go back and get at least my $ back for the 4 1/2 qts of trans fluid that they DIDN'T use... Last fri eve I did LOF, trans spin on, tire rotate, and front diff fluid change as well as checking everything else out. 2 hrs 15 min. Believe me, you can do this stuff yourself. You got taken to the cleaners!

My dealership has the 3k,6k and 12k free. The oil changes in between are 19.99 and continue at that price up to 100k. Not sure what it will be after that but I suspect that they hope to sell me another truck before then. This is for the oil change only, the price is (I think) $159 ish when it includes the fuel, transmission filters, air filter and tire rotation. The 72k is $349, can't remember what all it includes but the truck gets detailed.

Oh I know I got ripped off, I fully expected that. I wanted it in the GM computer that it was done so if I have trans issues in the future they can't ***** that I never had the filter changed.

I am going to call tomorrow and have them refund me the trans fluid.

I'd like to know what oil they used to charge over $6 a quart. You got screwed.

I hope they used some KY so you wouldn't be too sore on the drive home! "5 Fluid" doesn't make sense. If they drained the pan, it would take about 7.4 quarts to refill it. Just changing the filter, you lose about 8 ounces or less. Take some pride in your truck and do this stuff yourself. You'll enjoy it and have extra bucks for other stuff. Over $6 for a quart of oil that probably cost them $1.50. I'm sure they didn't use synthetic. I get my Amsoil (synthetic) for $6.50 per quart. Save your receipts and keep a service log.

That is freaking insane.
$20 in labor or an oil change?
$25 for the engine oil filter and $21 for the tranny filter?

That they did was charge "book rate" for changing the INTERNAL tranny filter on a gasser (non-Allison).... that's about 5 quarts of ATF and a $20 filter.

Please tell me that the magnet is still there... but I suspect it is not.
It NEEDS to be there.

I would be making another trip to the dealer and make it vey clear that you are NOT happy, and that you DEMAND that they verify that the magnet is still there AND that they installed Dexron-VI, not Dexron-III.

That would have cost you about $70 to do it yourself, using synthetic oil.
They charged you over $6/qt for 15w40 dino oil... Mobil-1 is only $6.

Everyone seems to be paranoid about having the first service done at the dealer to get it into their computer.
There is no difference between the 1st and 100th service... if it is missed, the dealer CAN attempt to refuse warranty service.

LEGALLY, if you have receipts for the materials purchase, you are covered and protected under Magnusson-Moss.

If a manufacturer requires that parts and service be performed by the dealership, then they also have to provide those parts and service at no charge.

I know how to do it and I hate doing it. I work on my Cobra, thats enough "fun" for me. Its a pain in the ass, I don't mind paying someone to do it but I do mind paying 3 times what it should.

I totally agree 100% that they overcharged for what they did, I'm going to try and find some time to call tomorrow and ask them why I was charged so much.

I think I had $50 in my last oil/tranny filter change including all fluid and a trip through the drive-thru at McDonald's.

It didn't take that long because I barely made it home in time to..........you know.
