: Door chime mod works great (no ding ding ding)
problemchild 03-28-2004, 09:59 PM Well I followed the pictures on the thread posted here the other day. I pulled the cover under the steering column. I pulled the third plug on the right side. I cut the green wire and taped both ends.
This is the best mod I have done so far. I can actually open my door without having my eardrums rattle.
I can now get fuel and keep the radio on. I havent seen any side effects yet. What a relief......Edited by: problemchild
silvermax 03-28-2004, 10:27 PM Could you post a pic of the mod problemchild? Thanks man.
_nar_ 03-29-2004, 12:57 AM I am glad to hear there is a method for this, I had to pull my dash apart on my current truck and pull the dinger off the board because it drove me nuts.
Max Power 03-29-2004, 01:20 AM nar, the 03's and up don't use a board the way your 2000 does. It is built into the stereo system. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif
Mackin 03-29-2004, 05:51 AM I heard one a couple weeks ago ,and it's horribly loud .... I always thought ,How bad could it be ?? It's bad ....
Hope it works ...

Michigana_Joe 03-29-2004, 08:22 AM If you replace your radio w/ an aftermarket unit and use the after market wiring harness w/ integrated chime unit, I recommend wrapping the little speaker box with electrical tape. The volume level with the speaker holes covered w/ tape is perfect. It still chimes, but in a quiet, subtle sort of way. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Problemchild could you post a more detailed," how to " ? That noise drives me nuts. Can't wait to get rid of it.
Thanks MB
_nar_ 03-30-2004, 12:11 AM Max: I knew that and so I was worried when I buy another truck that I wouldn't be able to kill the chimes. I plan to replace the stereo but every wiring harness I found had a chimer in it so then you would still have them... Man I hate that noise..Edited by: _nar_

AkDually61 03-30-2004, 08:31 AM Is it the same on the '02s?????
MaxumDuramax 03-30-2004, 09:52 AM I know on the '03 if you have the truck running and the radio is off and you hold down the number 6 button(which you hit to select a CD or save radio channel) the volume of the door chime changes. You have to hold it down for about 5 seconds.
_nar_ 03-31-2004, 12:36 AM Akdually: On the 02 it is in a box under your column just like mine I believe.. You can follow the sound and if it is coming from there it is simple to pull the cover under the column, then pull that box out and carefully open it, then even more carefully pry the dinger off the board. You could do it more easily if you used a soldering iron to heat the 2 pins that hold it on, but I just popped mine off with my knife.. Quick and easy and makes me very happy.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Even if you are a bit unsure where it is, leaving the key on lets you find it easily...
Turfmower 03-31-2004, 08:53 AM I know on the '03 if you have the truck running and the radio is off and you hold down the number 6 button(which you hit to select a CD or save radio channel) the volume of the door chime changes. You have to hold it down for about 5 seconds.
how do you do it on a Am/Fm no cd no tape
problemchild 03-31-2004, 09:21 AM Turfmower
The change he's talking about is from LOUD to LOUDER, you dont want it.
Captain Beefheart 03-31-2004, 07:38 PM Ahhhhhh, sweet relief!! After reading this thread I went out to my '02 Dually today and removed the little black box and desoldered the piezoelectric speaker (dinger). I saved it in case I want to put it back for some reason.
It took me all of about 15 minutes. Thanks for the info!
_nar_ 04-01-2004, 01:10 AM Yeah I thought about saving mine but it gave me such joy throwing it in the garbage.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif
rocksam 06-10-2004, 09:14 PM i just cut mine but it still chimes when you turn the key on. any to stop that too?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif
TEXMudder 06-10-2004, 11:44 PM Heck how did you get that section of dash off?
rocksam 06-11-2004, 12:20 AM two screws 9/32 iirc on the bottom then pull. not to hard too do. http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big%20Smile.gif
Max Power 06-11-2004, 12:26 AM 9/32?? I think you mean 7mm http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif Everything is metric now.
rocksam 06-12-2004, 09:24 PM worked for mehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif. no ideas on my question?
TEXMudder 06-12-2004, 11:28 PM I had those out but it seems like something at the top was holding it in.
rocksam 06-13-2004, 01:36 AM just pull there plastic clips on top, just don't get to rough.
56Nomad 06-14-2004, 12:49 PM After you remove the dash panel, pull out the black box all three
wire harnesses are plugged into. Open up the black box
(it has 4 push-in tabs) and stick a ice pick into the center of
the round dinger speaker. Rotate the ice pick while the dinger
is sounding off and you'll hear as it slowly dies to silence. It will
stop it from dinging in all modes!!!! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/848_kill_the_dinger.jpg
rocksam 06-14-2004, 11:07 PM mine dings through the sound sys. the damn thing is starting to piss me off. if i knew why it was dinging i might be able to figure it out with a wiring diag.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif thanxs for the reply thoughhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
mpl897 06-15-2004, 05:14 PM I know on the '03 if you have the truck running and the radio is off and you hold down the number 6 button(which you hit to select a CD or save radio channel) the volume of the door chime changes. You have to hold it down for about 5 seconds.
