Well, congratulations, you have finally done it. You went out and purchased the truck of your dreams. After painstakingly choosing your color and options, you found the truck you have been wanting for years. You stare for hours at here smooth lines, and spend most of your weekends walking around it with a cotton cloth wiping off finger prints that you only imagine are there. You pop the hood and suddenly it becomes a main stage of inactivity for you and a few close friends to gather around and sip a few cold ones. You are then envy of your friends and neighbors, you have achieved greatness! But wait….. Now you realize that it requires care and attention, not just a regular bath, but more. A lot of people are not sure what to do and may not know how to do it or when it needs to be done. If you fall into one of those categories, read on. I have wrote this just for you.

Today’s vehicles are more dependable then ever before and are designed to run for many miles with little or no maintenance, or at least that’s what the manufacturer would like you to believe. A good maintenance habit is vital to the life of any machine and these trucks are no exception. The fluids must be maintained to ensure that the metals they protect have the proper protection. The filters must be maintained to ensure that the fluids last. The appearance must be maintained to ensure that you don’t have to transplant your driveline into another truck because your body fell apart. All of this maintenance is very simple to do and can be completed by the average DIYer.

The following maintenance schedule was arranged using information from GM, OEM manufacturers and personal experience. It does not rep

Could somebody elaborate about the driveshaft spline lubing? Is this a known problem and what type of lube do you use? Thanks

Around 30,000 miles, these GM trucks seem to develop a "clunk" in the steering column when going anywhere but straight. This is because it's dry. Is this actually a warranty issue, or just general maintenance? I think my dealership said it takes about 1/2 hour to do. What do you guys think?

Is 5000 mile oil change interval acceptable for a vehicle used in Phoenix Arizona, typically with the dust and heat gassers change oil at 3000 miles. Of course this just might be a ploy to get you to buy more oil. Just curious. I changed mine at 500, and am at 3500 now. I am getting stuff together for the 5000 mile interval.

I thin the 5000 mile interval is fine. I did mine at 2500 and am now at likr 4750. At 5 Im gonna do the oil and filter again and will also do my fuel filter. From then on I will do oil, filters (oil and fuel) every 5000 miles. I will do the tranny filter every 5000 too probably. Unless it gets too expensive. Then I will do the tranny every 7500 or so. I live where its hot and dusty too and real hilly here. I dont pull a trailer more than 2000 miles a year probably but I always have at least 3 dirtbikes in the back.

GM feels that leaking batteries are partly caused from the posts overheating from poor contact between the cable and battery, make sure this is clean and the cable is tightened properly.

Eric or anyone else, is there a torque spec. for the cable lugs. My wifes olds van has been leaking all over the garage floor. Had to have battery replaced. I fear this on my truck. I have already coated the terminals and they felt tight, but ya never know

What a terrific, well laid-out, informative, easy to follow schedule. Thank you very much for the time and effort it took to do this!

Thanks to dmaxallitech for putting it together and to GMC-2002-Dmax for sharing it!

Too bad we don't have anyone closer than Grand Rapids, MI with whom we could entrust our trucks for maintenance/repairs. All the dealers, Service Managers and Techs within an hour of my location that I've come into contact with seem to be missing a few parts!

Anyone using the cpu for oil change? I know on my other trucks (gas) that they were pretty much right on with 3000 or so with the kind of diving and loads I was pulling, I guess I plan on going 70 to 80 percent of oil life
