: Fuel Mileage??
ldand 03-28-2004, 08:01 PM Hello, I am new to this site and am about to order my first diesel. What are you guys getting for fuel mileage with the new LLY's running stock?
Thanks in advance,

Corsair 03-28-2004, 08:18 PM I have installed larger tires so my truck is not stock. According to my computer and compensating for the tire size I am averaging 13.5-14.5 around town. I have not run solo on the highway yet, everytime the truck hits the highway it has a trailer on it and I achieve 12-14 mpg. No these are not the big fuel economy numbers most people post, but I believe the truck running empty on the highway at 65-70 mph will average 17-18 from the short runs I have made. But keep in mind I have not run a tank of fuel thru the truck yet without a trailer being pulled.

maynard9089 03-28-2004, 08:20 PM Mine has about 850 miles and the DIC says that its 16.6MPG average. When I switch to get the current MPG it says 22MPG on cruise at 60MPH.
Rollin' Thunder 03-28-2004, 08:25 PM 75 miles on mine. Picked it up 4 days ago. DIC shows 13.8 mpg and it has been rising. A few highway trips and I'll bet it gets up to about 18 mpg.
When I add the fifth wheel in another 4 weeks I'm hoping to get 12-13 on the highway.
maynard9089 03-28-2004, 08:28 PM I should add that mine too has been climbing. Was 12.5 the first couple of days and has steadily climbed since.
sammy 03-28-2004, 08:57 PM 2nd tank through the truck, on a trip across WI, 90% hiway with speeds from 55-70mph I got 16.5 when calculated by hand, 17.5 on the DIC. The DIC was showing 18.2 until I added a little in town driving to the mix. After my first two tanks, the DIC was showing 1 mpg better than actual.
ve7edl 03-28-2004, 10:53 PM I picked up my truck on wednesday, I had a lot of short trips to run around town and a short trip on the highway. I couldn't wait to do a mileage check so I filled up a little before 1/2 tank was gone. I converted the litres and KM to miles and imperial gallon because I only understand MPG. The hand calculations came out to 16.99 mpg. On saturday I took about a 400 mile trip to seattle and back to have my torklift superhitch and camper tiedowns installed, again doing a hand calculation when I got home, it was 21.22 mpg. I am thrilled with the mileage on this size of truck. I think as it get more miles it will get even better.
I consitently keep my DIC in the high 18 to 19+ range. With exception to towing. My last tank with mixed driving conditions the dic said 19.6. I calculated 19.2 MPG. Just keeps getting better.
laborer 03-29-2004, 01:54 PM My first tank went 16.7 around town. Picked it up last Tues. and it's got 369 miles on it today.

ricklaut 03-29-2004, 10:42 PM I've got 16.1 on the DIC with 320 highway miles and 210 city miles (lots of stop and go traffic). I just picked the truck up on Friday night, so she's still young...

Raven 03-29-2004, 11:42 PM Just picked up my new truck (Chevy 2500HD 4x4, Duramax/Allison)last Friday (Mar 27, 2004). It now has ~360 miles on it and the first tank was filled up at 308.7 miles taking 19.4 gallons of fuel. That's ~15.9 mpg with mostly in town driving other than a highway round trip of about 140 miles.
VERY happy with it so far!
First tank, 16.3 mpg: 25% in-town congested stop & go (35mph or under), 25% rural @ 45mph, 50% steady 50-55mph. Stock, empty, no towing. Very happy with those #s. Good luck. BTW, took 7 weeks from order (3rd week of Jan) to delivery here in N VA. Love it.
Baldy 03-30-2004, 01:10 PM First 2 tanks = 15.6mpg
Since then = 17.7 mpg for rural driving at usually 55mph. During this time it was very cold around here.
Last fill-up at 4500 miles = 18.6mpg but it has been much warmer, too.
I don't know if the improvement is due to the temperature change or that the motor is getting fully broken in. I have done no towing or highway driving yet.
LLY DMAX 03-31-2004, 01:38 AM Highway only= 18.5 MPG @ 65 MPH (calculated).
Pulling 11,500 Lb trailer around town, And up & down hills= 10.5 MPG Calculated.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif (But it sure was fun!!)http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gifEdited by: LLY DMAX
Hoser805 03-31-2004, 03:30 AM First tank 303 miles, filled with 19 gallons calculated 15.8 mpg....that's about half city/half highway. Looking forward to getting better this tank!
Jose
Just got my DMax, 1/2 way through the 2nd tank.
1st tank - 15.5 MPG - all sidestreet, varying throttle (really inefficient driving to encourage break-in)
2nd tank - so far I'm averaging 16 overall - this is mostly sidestreet driving, including a run up a local 7000+' mountain, and about 50 miles of freeway.
So far I'm very pleased. I understand the economy gets better as the motor breaks in - plus I havn't done any significant freeway miles yet.
04wanabemax 04-02-2004, 08:01 PM I hope it's ok to post this here. This is the MPG so far, and as others have stated as the miles add up the power and fuel economy seems to be getting better. I must say that my mileage between 1048 miles and 4084 miles were on a trip from Richmond Vermont to Myrtle Beach So. Carolina and back, with a week in So. Carolina all city driving. I drive the truck fairly easy, but there have always been a few full throttle accelerations on almost all tanks after the first 500 miles of breakin.
I do wonder if the operating temperatures of the truck may play a large role in fuel economy as in Vermont my truck has only comes up to temperature (210) and once the thermostat opens it runs around 180 deg. where on the trip it ran around 210 on the highway. I guess ill find out more in the next few tanks of fuel back home.
Sure hope it even gets better, but if it doesn't I'll still be very happy.

Leatherman 04-18-2004, 11:20 PM 50% hwy/50% city 349 miles 22 gals = 15.5 not too bad only 800 miles on truck so far. Much better then my gaser which was 10 MPG under the same conditions. Happy so far!!
Harley99 04-19-2004, 04:59 PM Just checked and have 708 miles on the "DIC' Average showes 16.0. Very happy with this here new truckhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
dpower 04-19-2004, 08:14 PM Ran solo on the highway 900 miles this weekend. 21mpg hand calculated. Cruise set @73. Hard to believe but hand calculations don't lie. 2500 miles on the truck, to say the least I am very happy with this new beast.
Raven 04-19-2004, 09:02 PM Just turned over 2250 miles and the last tank was an impressive 17.9 mpg with a good mix of highway and in town driving. Highway speeds were in the 65-70 mph range so I'm thrilled so far!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
LLY DMAX 04-20-2004, 12:07 AM update:
Last 2 tanks going easy on the throttle. 50/50 City/Freeway.
Freeway at 70 mph. Ave speeds were 33 and 29 MPH for both tanks.
15.45 MPG and 15.31 MPG. Corrected including 285s.
I'm sure the tires are hurting the city mpgs a bit it is well worth it.
Wickedfn4u 04-22-2004, 11:31 AM I was just wondering how it would change it but what about the A/C? I have auto but turn off my compressor and ave right about 16mpg with 26mph. I know with my 03 1500 if I turned it off I saw about 1.5 to 2 mpg better. When summer comes along I usually leave it on and will be able to see a difference.
